‘I’ve been working in this role for quite some time and I’m looking for new opportunities to grow and keep myself from stagnating’
I usually mention neutral reasons such as wanting more performance reviews or more career advancement opportunities in my next position. It answers their question without divulging that you actually hate your job
I think you should be truthful, but phrase it strategically and position it as what you’re looking for rather than why you are leaving - eg “I’m looking because I’d like to join an account where clients are strategic, collaborative, and treat us like partners rather than vendors. As an AE, I’m good at xyz and want more ownership opportunity in that area. I’m also very interested in abc and would like to learn that in a new role. It’s important to me to join a robust team and find more work life balance too.” blah blah.
Also be considerate of the questions you ask while interviewing to get a better sense ;) “Why do you need to fill this role, what is the reason the previous AE left?” “Talk to me about the makeup of the team - who is dedicated? Do you have to fight for resources or does the scope support solid staffing?” “Tell me about the clients, what are they like to work with, are they happy with the team?” “What is the biggest challenge an AE will need to tackle when joining this team?”
And my personal fav to ask - “Candidly, do you feel happy and healthy working here?”
Good luck!!
