Well I'd take it where you can get it. It's one of those things, where I'm doing ok. I'll ask about the other stuff a little later. Got a job, getting some money. Hey, put your new title on your resume and go fishing. YES, pune intended.
Will you have new responsibilities? Or the same job with a new title? Also, why not just ask what your new salary will be? The worst thing that can happen is they say, “the same.” If that happens, you can decide if you want to ask for a raise. But maybe they’ll surprise you with the answer you want to hear.
What do you get promoted to from group planning director?
Supergroup planning director?
Ugh “Data-led narratives” that’s too real ASD1

Be careful. Have you seen Goodfellas. The family lured Tommy with a promotion which ultimately led to his demise.
And dat's dat.
Ask before accepting the promotion
39,000 ad people laid off in the last three months and we’ve got THIS guy. Please post your LinkedIn profile pic so we can add you to the dictionary definition for “self-absorbed.” 🙄
I agree with SVP 1. Why is everyone acting like it’s unfair to ask for what you deserve? If anything, it’s unfair to assume you would do the work worth the additional pay without an increase to your salary. The worst they’ll say is...no!
I guess the question is , why do you think they will not compensate you for it? And if not, that’s very shady business.
We’ve been told multiple times from HR & leadership (pre-Covid) that promotions can certainly come without raises 🙄 Mine is one example... now I’m unable to ask for raise because of people like ECD who shame us to even think of being so selfish
They should've sent you a letter detailing your new position. If there's no mention of a raise in there, ask.
If your company had a hold on all salary increases, ask that you will be included in the first/next raise pool. Be sure to get confirmation in writing.
Congrats on the promotion!

Did you earn the title change? Yes? Then you earned the raise. You’ll never get something if you don’t ask. We need to stop living in fear people.
Always get the pay increase before promotion; sorry but you’re not getting more money. You just got played.
“Looking forward to discussing the specifics! Are you able to provide an updated job description, compensation, etc prior to our phone call/video chat/meeting?” If they’ve already sent an updated job description, then can you respond with your expectations in terms of salary increase?
Different and more responsibilities? More money. If they promise you that the money will come, get it in writing. I was promised, and the money didn’t come.
Happened to me too. Seems to be a trend at Edelman.
Thanks for all the advice everyone, much appreciated. As it happens, I have new respect for my boss as he brought it up before I did. Long story short, no chance of it now but will definitely happen in the next raise pool. I appreciate that these are difficult times and that I am blessed to have this kind of problem. Thank you all for the civil discourse.
Except in today’s climate (and at their level of seniority) it will take long. Jobs in general are scarce, and roles at the top are even scarcer. Unless an agency is trying to build something and NEEDS a bunch of senior level talent, they’re fatter salaries on payroll that can be done by multiple lower level employees
I just got a promotion with no raise, I plan on leveraging the title for a new position somewhere else.
Totally fair question if literally a promotion. Ask! In any event a good signal. Well done.
A promotion without a raise isn’t a promotion- it’s just more work.

If they don’t pay you more is it just a carrot to keep you working?
Yes they are.
I think it’s a totally normal and expected question to ask since generally promotions are accompanied by a salary increase. Also you mentioned you’re getting an SVP title, that might make you eligible for incentive compensation or extra PTO if not a salary increase. It’s actually crazy to me that the employer didn’t address compensation at all.
Ah sorry, someone else mentioned SVP, not you. In any case, ask
