Following because exact same boat...except left big law in year 5. Took a massive cut. Working the same if not more. The work is definitely better but let’s be real it’s all mundane. Hate it all. But need the money

Maybe look for other big law opportunities? Or maybe consider business school to go the business route? Or maybe transition to federal government or in house counsel? Explore as much as you can and hopefully you can find something with the right balance

Not really sure what to tell you. Either reduce expenses and find a non-firm job or continue being miserable. I’d rather do the first option but plenty of people choose the second. In-house positions take time to find but if/when you do you should still be compensated enough that it’s not like you’re dropping down to local government or something and the change shouldn’t be too drastic...

Does your practice area lend itself to a transition in house? You will really mix things up and it will feel like a new job. Moving from there "to the business side" is nog uncommon. Just make sure you have some interest in the company's industry or product. And real talk: speak with your husband about the burden you feel. You are a team.

Would you make more if you became a partner at a different or smaller firm?

Currently talking to recruiters for a new job and it is honestly such a turnoff when they talk too much about having a strong company culture and/or talking about making sure I'm a good fit culturally. For me that borders on culty and is a red flag. I would much rather hear from a recruiter that a workplace's "culture" is that they are accepting of all cultures, diversity, and personality types.
