SF in comparison - Pro - Less time spent in traffic and driving. Easier access to better parks, all across the city. City is super walkable and accessible. And I actually like SF weather more than LA weather (I like layering and fog.)
Con - LA has better art and cultural events programming.
Neither pro nor con - I thought SF was the only place where I’d get trapped at a house party with someone who is shouting about crypto, but this is everywhere in LA too.
Lol I think that's most big cities now, right?
Just made the move two months ago. I think SF has way better weather! The heat isn’t dreadful and the food is immaculate. We live in the heart of the city and it has such great walkability. The only downside is that the grocery store is a bit more expensive but we use a meal delivery kit which helps with affordability.
Asian food is way better, Mexican food is a little worse. Live music/concerts are lacking. Traffic is better and transit actually somewhat works. Day trips are significantly better (half moon bay, wine country, etc). People are less superficial but still passive aggressive. I actually think the weather is better but I don’t like it when it’s too hot. It feels much more self contained rather than sprawling.
I went to school in LA and came up to the bay after graduation and been here almost a decade though I still spend a lot of time in LA ktown and Orange County. Biggest differences I’ve observed - certain parts of LA can feel downright dangerous (more of a gang culture), whereas SF is more just plain dirty and filled with petty crime (Oakland is a different story though). LA air quality ranges from atrocious to poor, and their tap water is ass. SF air and water is great except for South Bay. LA people tend to be flex more outwardly with clothing and cars whereas SF people flex with their multi million dollar houses. SF attracts more career minded / family oriented adults whereas LA has a more diverse mix of adults with varying interests and aspirations.
I was just talking more generally/high level. Is there a specific area you wanted to know
I am contemplating a move actually in reverse so this is timely 🤔
LA is better, only thing SF got are the tech jobs, night life sucks and the food isn’t that great. And if you are a single guy I rather be in LA than SF, went to a bar in March and the ratio of men to women was sooooooooo bad it was like 5 dudes for every 1 girl.
Principal one you are right 😅 especially on the apps
I'm from Bay. I used to think LA sucks until I met BTS on street and saw Harry Styles in a cafe once.
Make you sure you understand what SF rents are realistically. When I lived there a few years back I paid $2500 for a 700sqft illegal garage turned into an apartment that my 6’4” fiancé couldn’t stand up straight in.
