I’m considering making a career switch to HR (in Canada). Do I need to get any professional certifications or go back to school?

If you want to do full spectrum HR in Canada, find the Provincial HR association, they will provide guidance on certification (it is a registered profession).

What role are you pivoting from? Do you have any transferable skills that would make the leap go more smoothly? If so, you may be able to get away without any additional certs. That said, it definitely wouldn't hurt for you to invest in some continuing ed.

If you are switching from an irrelevant field, then it won't be easy for you to do without doing a certification. Whereas, if your current job role attributes match with the one needed in HR, then it won't be an issue for you.

In case, you fall under the category who needs the relevant certificate, you don't have to worry at all, as it is not as much difficult now as it was 10 years ago.

You don't need to spend 2 years in getting MBA Degree instead can enroll in the Online MBA alternative program with a job guarantee. It will make you equal to an MBA candidate within 6 months. They are quick to do, easy to cover, and strong enough to land you a job.

Here's an example of such a program; https://hsol.education/accelerated-management-program/

You check out, how this kinda platform works and what are their benefits.

Hi there! I interview for a position with a planned Parenthood this week for a role as Special Events Manager to oversee their fundraising department. Because most of my work and experience has been in freelance. I’m having a hard time figuring out what my work experience translates to in a Salary position. Therefore, I wonder what my base pay should be. Does anyone have any experience in the role?

Hello All,

I hope everyone is doing well.

Is anyone here, who switched company from India to Germany?
Do they consider only German speaking candidates or English speaking is ok for them?
Also, anyone have experience with EU Blue card.
Can we directly apply for EU blue card from India if there is a job offer? Anyone got visa sponsorship directly from German employer?

I have seen most of companies need German speaking candidates.

I recently started a new sales position, and I know I’m making a lower commission rate than my male counterparts. Could be that I’m new, and they decided to lower it and not because I’m a female. My direct manager is trying to adjust it because we were both told 1% and when my commission started I was at .8%. Any advice would help, I never signed anything that had a commission rate on it. But I’m pretty sure our base as a company has always been 1%.

My company went toxic in the last couple months. Chose me and started interviewing. Had a very successful interview with Amazon but recruiter is working hard trying to place me and said there’s no knowing how long to find a team. Meanwhile I just received a Director offer for a company with a 29% pay bump July 1. If Amazon or any other FAANG/large co gets back to me, is there an acceptable way to not burn bridges with new job and accept or delay start date with FAANG? Or fuck it just hop?

Hi everyone! I’d like to create a simple graphic of our HR operational calendar for my client group. A visually appealing infographic that outlines our annual talent cycles (talent planning, performance reviews, promotion nominations, merit, etc) so leadership always knows what’s coming and can better prepare and strategize. Any ideas on how I can best visually represent this? Any tools, programs or templates you recommend? Thanks!

Ok if the work environment is toxic and the manager totally unsupportive ... And eventually you leave the job ... During interviews when the HR asks you why did you leave the job ? What should be the answer ? I have often seen / heard that you should never badmouth your boss or company no matter how bad the situation was at work ? Then what should be the answer to this question ?

I’m contracting with a company in an admin role, but sometimes I’m asked to do projects that would normally be outsourced to a marketing or design company like designing a flyer for example. It’s not in my job description, but I have the skills to do this work and so why not ask me to do it? Is it out of the question to ask if I can be paid for that work under a separate fee as a consultant or something? Is that even possible?

How do you build trust with your company's employees that you are there as a resource for them, and not just to protect the company? Especially in this remote environment.

I’m not old BUT when I was younger I thought it was important to have all the alphabets after my name (I.e. Phr, SHRM and all the others). I learning that the younger crowd coming into the market thrives off these identifiers yet they know very little about the real world aspects of the job. I watch leadership roll their eyes at the email footers. I feel like keeping those attached to my name hurts my credibility so I removed them…. I’m I thinking wrong?
