I’m constantly hearing the benefits of FDD over Accounting advisory (FAAS/CMAAS).

Can someone share the benefits of Accounting advisory over FDD.

It depends on your career interests. Do you like financial analysis with the potential option to go into investment banking one day? Then go FDD.

If you like technical accounting, financial reporting, or accounting in general, then go AAS.

I personally have worked in both and my interest lies in AAS, so that’s where I’m staying.

Super interesting! This is exactly the answer I was looking for! I’m very new to AAS and I really like the work so far, but I’m sure I’d like FDD just as much. I’m not really sure what I want long term yet and I know both these service lines have very different tasks. You mentioned a director of technical accounting? Is this a typical exit for AAS? What does this position do? It sounds like it would do in-house TAAG work? I know when most people leave for industry they get a pay bump, is the same true for technical accountants in industry?

I’m interested as well, as I am debating between FDD & AAS and I’m torn

I currently do external and internal audits

Anyone ever have experience negotiating a new offer to include unvested 401k match and stock grants from your current employer? I hate leaving money on the table but there are some good roles out there. I’m not fully vested in my current 401k yet and my stock grants haven’t matured yet either. This would be at a global director level.

Ok, maybe this has been done before, but I want to get a real life sense of the difference between EPLI and Private L&E (management side) practices. Let's do a poll:

1.) Primary source of business: EPLI or Private Companies?

2.) Number of matters you are currently working on

3.) Average billable rate (your year)

4.) Normal working hours/wk

5.) Percentages: Litigation vs Counseling

6.) Type of firm: ID, Big 4, Boutique, BigLaw, etc.

I'll kick things off in comments.

I’m a 3rd year insurance defense attorney in a small town. So far this year through June I’ve billed $110,000 and collected $95,000. I expect the second half of the year to be about the same. My salary is $53,000, with potentially bonus at the end of the year (totally the discretion of the partners). Benefits are fine but nothing special. Am I being undercompensated? I enjoy where I live, the work I do, and the low cost of living, but it’s hard to build up savings on my current salary.

I’m a fourth-year associate who just got an offer to go in house. My experience is in litigation but I’d be working on more corporate matters, which scares me. But I hate billables and firm culture and the in-house company is a huge company where you can make moves in once you’re there.

My salary would be the same but I’d get better benefits and bonus opportunities in house. Plus I’m a mom and will have on-site childcare. Should I be scared that switching from litigation will be boring?
