I’m convinced LinkedIn is the most disconnected and dystopian group of people.

I just saw someone make a post about how kind they were for taking a chance on someone who has a resume gap because they were taking care of their dying family member.

Last week someone thanked their boss for giving them time off to give birth.

I have nothing constructive to add — I just want to emphasize how ridiculous people are.

Separate but somewhat related subject, I find the “I’m pleased to announce…” type of posts/essays for taking new roles to be cringey

(although theryre not necessarily disconnected like OP’s specific examples)

Agreed D1!

There is definitely some nuance to my ever-developing LinkedIn pet peeve

One of the cringiest posts I saw was a PwC Senior Associate who sat on her kitchen floor, had someone take a photo, and then claim she tripped when walking because of the burden of her responsibilities she carried at work. She then profusely thanked her managers and mentors for the strength to power through , which is what helped her … wait … get back on her feet. The likes, loves and responses to that post were amongst the cringiest I have seen in years!!!!

This made me full body shiver

And people are using it to post political stuff as if it is the newest social media app to replace Facebook. People are stupid.

Lol wish that was true

I find LinkedIn to be an insincere platform. Other than look up contacts once on a blue moon I rarely use my account and have come across several executives who rarely use it as well.

I saw this post a few days ago on LinkedIn. I am happy that the dog is cancer free but this should be posted on Facebook instead.

How would a dog get on LinkedIn if it couldn’t read/write?

This phenomenon sounds silly without context.

Employers/recruiters now request links to your LI profile, personal and any business websites so they can assess your personality, opinions, style, professional connections, conflicts of interest and overall brand.

A resume is no longer enough; they want social proof that you are active in your professional community, can communicate effectively and influence people.

Don't hate the player, hate the game 🤷‍♂️

Cmon now, this world is dystopian for far more consequential reasons than any of this BS on LinkedIn

People are posting getting engaged on LinkedIn

It’s the wedding dress/tuxedo in their profile pic for me lmao

Lol yeah it’s a joke, but still a great networking tool aside from all the clowns on there posting their “feel good for me” stories

I don’t think it’s dystopian. The feeds are full of sycophants and charlatans. I don’t know why anyone feels the need to spread their versions of workplace morality on such a platform. I use it to stay connected to my network of professionals. I don’t post much, except when I change jobs or share a vacancy on my team. LinkedIn did help me get noticed by recruiters. They tend to find me, and I don’t have to post or comment like my life depends on it. This is where the platform works, IMO.

Maybe time to rethink your network?

Burn LinkedIn to the ground.

This dude posted the same thing three times in the last 7 months. Also he’s known to take other peoples posts and claim them as his own for self-gain. Is that not copyrighted?

You know, employers have been taken hostage and killed for not allowing workers to take time off. That's why we have labor laws. Yet now, I guess it is a service that employers provide. This should be expected. If it is expected, it should not be thanked.

Bunch of people blowing smoke out of their ass.

And they call Boomers the “Me” generation. Those old people have nothing on the Gen Z “look at me! I’m pleased to announce that I can wipe my own ass” generation.

Currently making 165K and told a recruiter in the initial phone screen that minimum expectation is 190K (didn’t tell her current pay). Is there any scope to renegotiate this later, if I get an offer?
