I’m curious to other’s experiences in negotiating outcomes. There is a job I really want, but would need 25%-30% than what they offered for it to make sense.
Has anyone successfully negotiated this large of a difference? Tips on approach and discussion?

If you want 30% more, ask for 40% more and outlining your reasons

I was asked what my compensation request would look like and I shot about 70% above the National minimum and they accepted right away. Felt like I should of asked for more. When they changed the location of choice on me after my offer letter was sent I asked for $5k more to account for the additional travel time and they accepted and increased my 2 yr bonus by $2k and my stock options by 10%. Again, it doesn’t hurt to ask and have them say no, I went off National averages for the title.

I agree with manager 1.

As a former recruiter of almost a decade, I would always advise you to ask for what you need.

So, as manager 1 said, ask for 40% to let them bring you back down to that 25-30% mark.

If the offer is better than where you’re currently at, start there. If you’re at $0.00 take it & grow, remain a passive candidate (still network & talk to recruiters) and continue to update your resume.

A general rule of thumb, you want every transition to be at least a 10% bump.

You can check out my IG page where I talk about this all the time.

It might be tough but I have seen it done. You just have to be able to make a case for why you deserve to be paid that much. I def always suggest negotiating.

Realized recently that switching out of my toxin work group is going to be incredibly difficult for a number of factors. Beginning to think I just need to lateral somewhere else but afraid I’m going to end up in a worse position with fewer connections. Would you stay and play long game trying to slowly transition out of group or just lateral and be done?

I was handed a job change request by my COO yesterday that is giving me pause. The title is Information Technology, Communications & Facilities director. There main goal this year was to take some work off my plate and get me equal to my colleagues. I just have no real frame of reference to say confidently that “hey that’s a lot of work for one person at this salary”. I feel like this is a set up to just make me more of a work horse. Any resources you could recommend or advice ?

Hi fishes,

Please suggest considering the global recession fears

I just received a tentative offer as a sys admin for a subprime contractor at a rate of 80 dollars per hour. I was wondering if anyone understands how contracting works and if you think I'd be able to negotiate for a higher rate. They made it seem like positions salary is based on limitations of the contract. Any explanation about how this stuff works would be very helpful...thanks

Even though some job postings include the range, the recruiter still asks me what my desired salary range is? Im totally fine with the salary range posted in the job description - that’s why I applied. Do you guys usually give a higher number or just narrow the range down but stay within the salary range posted with the job description?

Hey all,

Currently a Sr PM at MAANG in the UK with 5YOE and a TC of £100k. I’ve interviewed successfully with an American start up in France for a very similar role with a lot of potential. What’s a realistic salary/TC expectation? What should I consider in a move from UK to FR?

I am a newly promoted supervisor who has been with my company for 3 years. The promotion came with a salary increase & I was happy about that.

However, since in my new role I have come to discover that people I am now overseeing have a higher pay rate than I do. Some have been with the company longer than I have, some have not.

Maybe it was my bad for not asking for not negotiating my pay raise, but I am wondering what you would do in this situation?

Negotiating salary in early stage start ups can be tricky. I was wondering if anyone has a some idea about how much stock options can be asked for pre Series B startup. Would 0.2-0.4% of the total existing shares be fair for Mid Senior Scientist?

I got an offer from a company. They told me on the phone the salary was 88k but when they sent me the offer letter it said $87.5k What do I do?

January, I got a promotion to store manager of a Metro by T-Mobile. The job however came with a mandatory 60hrs/6 day work week. And salary at $1,000 a week. There are no benefits, PTO, or even holiday pay. I get a commission on my sales with how things are now a days, it's like an extra $400 a month. I'm not really happy, and am having doubts about staying here. Is this a good salary? At $16.6/hr i feel as it's not.

I’ve been a general manager for a convenience store for almost 2 years now. I have raised profit after variable expenses by 13% compared to last year, and exceeding budgets in almost every category except for turnover. I got an 11% raise last year, but still only make $55k. My store profits about 17k a month on inside sales, and 160k a month in fuel. I think I deserve more, but I don’t know how to ask for it, and don’t know how to begin a job search aside from indeed. Any advice?

Should I ask about the salary range or budget during the HR screening call if they don’t bring it up? I can’t get a good estimate on all the online tools.

Can you sign an offer and say no to the contract?
