What’s your day to day like as a healthcare consultant? Do you work with any healthcare tech at all?

Without starting from the very bottom. The best path is usually to get some type of relevant experience at your current job if you can. For example, perhaps getting involved in nursing informatics or implementing healthcare solutions? Implementing anything would be a great start. Get that on your resume and transition out of it into general IT stuff after a year. You might also see if there are healthcare consultant roles at bigger firms where they might let you get exposure to general IT tech/concepts.

Do you actually want to code? Then the boot camp route might be a good path. I’ve seen posts around here discussing boot camp pros/cons. What’s great about that is a lot of companies rely on tests to weed out candidates. Get good enough and you can probably get an entry level coding job if you can pass the test.

Try and get your current company to pay for all of your classes if you can.

OH! If you’re already working with a lot of tech (even if healthcare specifically) and doing implementations it wouldn’t be a stretch to pivot into general tech work. For example, is any of the stuff you implement running in the cloud? You could study up and expand on those skills and on your resume, be sure to share more heavily on the cloud experience and less on the healthcare tech itself. Need to be good enough to pass the tech interviews though.

If you’re wanting to get into IT strategy then that’s going to take a bit more maneuvering since you haven’t been doing general IT yet. Not that I think it’s required, but it’s more about having the opportunity to do it. Also saying “IT strategy” is very broad.

You should look into Salesforce partners that specialize in healthcare vertical. Often they’re looking for people with industry experience, and can train on Health Cloud. Would be good to start teaching yourself Salesforce too; check out Trailhead for that.

Definitely took the wrong job. I was offered a seriously competitive salary and great benefits to work at a well funded startup, which is great! Turns out the salary and benefits were meant as lowkey bribes to insure I worked at the company without actually doing any work. Every single suggestion I've made has been shut down and I've been ghosted for several meetings with the CEO. What should I do? Just leave?

I am coming up on a year at the company and want to start either negotiating higher pay or looking elsewhere. What should I do and how should I go about it?
