I’m currently a Manager of events but am looking to change careers. My experience is solely in hospitality, food and beverage and events. This of course translates well to customer service but I’m tired. Anyone move on from a career in hospitality and events, and what did you move on to? A complete career change seems scary but I’m thinking it’s necessary at this point.

Not sure what type of hospitality you are in, but you could try corporate event marketing, lots of great opportunities with marketing and events now that live events are back.

I studied hospitality management, moved into hotel sales, then event management, then analytics for an engagement marketing firm who does events and incentive programs. Highly recommend pinpointing if there are any aspects of your job you enjoy (for me, it was post event analysis and client presentations). Then see if you can land a role doing something familiar, but not burn yourself out.

I transitioned to HR, recruiting first. There are Aldo lots of companies hiring people to manage events and culture.

I have been in hospitality and retail most of my life. I am right there with you in needing a change. It's tough, I have been applying at various jobs for weeks and no nibbles. Hang in there.

Additional Posts in Career Pivot

I've spent the last 2 years in consulting after spending the first 6 in industry. I'm considering pivoting back to industry to be in an operations leadership role but I'm not sure if I'm moving too quickly and missing out on more advanced consulting experience. My long term goal has always been to be in an exec role.

Anyone faced a similar situation and have any words of wisdom?

I’ve been working for 3+ years in paid media at various media agencies. I started in the media agency life since I graduated college and have been working in this industry ever since. I’ve been wanting to pivot into corporate communications for the past two years, but have found it very difficult to do so. My first internship was in digital communications and visual media, so I do have something experience. Does anyone have any advice on pivoting into this industry or in general?

I am really interested in a career at Microsoft. I do not have a tech background but I have experience as a Team Manager, Consultant, and Account Manager across various industries. I am also finishing my MBA in 3 months. I am wondering what, if any, Microsoft Certifications would be the most important/impactful for me to pursue to help me overcome the lack of tech in my background. I appreciate any advice or input.

I am struggling with trying to determine a career move or not. Currently in credit management and have excelled in it. However, I have already reached my ceiling and the credit management positions I am seeing to move to, seem to lateral moves. Where would a good pivot be for someone with credit management, collections and banking experience be to make more of a career move? Managing a team? Credit Policy? I am interviewing for a senior level position at a tech company. Had my second interview 2 weeks ago, which went really well from my perspective. I still have not heard back from the recruiter. I followed up requesting an update, and still nothing. Is it normal to not hear back after this long? Have I been ghosted? I haven’t interviewed for a job in over 6 years, and never in tech, so I don’t know wha tot expect. But when I am hiring in health/academics I never go over a week without notifying.

I’ve got two offers - one as Microsoft dev, the other as Gov agency dev. Gov hours are great and benefits slightly better than Microsoft.

MS Pros:
It’s dream job (I think but can’t be 100% certain)
It’s Microsoft

MS Cons:
No promise of good W/L balance (I have kids)
No pension
Not as stable as Gov job.

Assume base Salary is the same.

What would you do?

Hi everyone! I got the counter offer, they raised the base salary from 54k to 55k despite me asking for 60k. They said its final.
(I am currently only making 50k a year)

I have only been working in my current company for less than a year.. do you think it is fair for me to bring this to my manager and see if they can match it? If i can get more money from my current company that would be ideal but not sure if my manager will be happy about it.
