I'm currently an IT Auditor with 1 year of experience. I don't have immediate plans to change positions, but I would like to switch over to an IT business analyst role one day. How difficult would it be to switch? Is it worth trying to stay in this role for another year or 2?

It isn’t difficult to switch. You should stay at least 2 to 21/2 year at this current role to maximize your chances of getting the most salary later.
If you leave now, they may offer you an associate role with 1 year of experience and raises are much lower in industry. You will be behind your peers in salary if you leave now.

However, its been difficult to get my foot in the door and I am worried its because of my grades. Can anyone provide some advice?

I just listened to an interview of a creative director recount their path towards copywriting at a famous ad agency. It could not have been a more textbook case of failing upwards as a white man.

It would seem the only thing you need to make it as an advertising creative is to have lots of not particularly original ideas. Practically every other skill is unnecessary. If you’re a white man.

That this level of mediocrity passes for talent explains why so many agency briefs are so lame.

Is this a red flag? - I interviewed for a financial analyst role with a company -

Had several rounds of interviews back in May, all signs pointed to that they all loved my resume and personality and I made a great impression. I was told that the role was on hold due to “beaucracy” but the hiring manager from the role has kept in touch. He then reached out to me yesterday asking if I’m still interested and want to move forward..no offer letter, just gauging my interest.

What would be your take?

Need some advice. I was asked to apply for a senior digital marketing specialist role (the lowest title I’ve applied for, looking mid-senior level). I applied and they offered me the position, but are telling me I need to start out at the regular specialist level. To me, if I interviewed for the senior title, and I can clearly do the qualifications needed since you offered me the role, I should have that title. Thoughts? Supposedly the reg. specialist role is senior in their org. structure.

People who have gone on STD leave, what was your experience?

The manager in on my engagement has a bad reputation for treating staffs badly. I found out that many staffs felt uncomfortable with the manager’s style of communication as well as always blaming on staffs instead of taking responsibility. For example, a staff sent out the sample selections and manager reviewed it but later found out that there was an error but instead of taking responsibility, the manager blamed the senior who had nothing to do with the selection process.

Audit Partners — Do you see longterm profitability of audit in general? Is it going to be worth being a partner, financially, given the risk you take on, in 10-15 years? With audit bids increasingly being driven way down by competition, & lower level resources demanding (much) higher pay than it was historically, I’m not convinced the partner track is still as enticing as it was pre-Covid. Seems like the job market/higher staff pay alone has GOT to be taking a huge cut into partner pay.
