Received an offer as Engagement Director from Salesforce (CSG, pre sales, L9). Great benefits package, 40% increase in total comp and better WLB.
I do love the people in my practice and current client, but career trajectory has stalled after taking parental leave earlier this year and (yet another) change in leadership.
Realistically, making to Director is 2-3 years away and will require sacrificing time with my family that I am not prepared to give up.

You mean you need someone to put a gun to your head to go the extra mile at work ? I never quite understand when people are bored at tech companies. There are 20 mil things you can do. But Nobody will force you to do it. If you’re bored , that’s kinda on you.

I think what d1 is saying is that you need to find fulfillment and enjoyment in the consulting journey and process because you still won’t be having any impact on your client.
Dude/girl whether it’s MBB or any other firm. What we do is just glorified story telling. There is no impact or in some cases negative impact :(

yeah this is a good point. your greatest “impact” is going to be on your company’s valuation, not anything external. to feel like you’re having the most impact your best bet is working for a small shop

I have done both and I must confess the impact working on technology teams is far more than doing glorified story telling or consulting . Now engineering folks in consulting still have deep impact but management is better off working in industry vs consulting . Plus you don't deal with cut throat bs in internal roles like consulting

There are plenty of roles within FANG if you want “cool data” - in fact tech is known for this, really makes me question where you get the idea you’d get more of this in MBB…
Think self driving, AI, social graphs, ranking algo, etc… all have way more room to play with data.

OP I’ll just say that data science in faang has been way better for me than data analytics in consulting. Are you sure it’s the company and not the role?

What’s your role, level, and industry? Sounds like you picked a really bad exit op. Just apply back to MBB if you have the credentials
FWIW, I would think about lateraling to another FAANG or a different team before jumping back into consulting.
