I'm currently in house in a mix of compliance/legal. Senior management wants me to take less responsibility for things and pass them onto other people who really should be doing them.

However, it's usually quicker, better done, and easier if I just do them and it gets it off my plate faster. How would you deal with this stuff?

I wish my compliance specialists acted this way. Maybe punt it like you’re supposed to but flag certain things/make general suggestions?

I guess I'll try... The result of this effort is I'm running coverage for business right out of law school vs our AML specialist being an attorney with 10 more years of experience being stuck in a less senior role.

I’ve been in an in-house role since the beginning of the year and just gave 2 weeks’ notice to leave for a much better paying and better titled position. I’m in discussions to become the GC of a mid size but international company that does ~$1 billion in annual revenue. Smallish legal department. They’ve asked for my comp expectations. I don’t have specific expectations but I want to be compensated at least market for a NYC based GC (which looks like cash comp of at least $300k plus bonus, etc). Any suggestions on how people would respond?

My company historically paid base comp and bonus based on years out of law school. Level 1 is 1-9, and Level 2 is 10+. Diff if $50k+, easily. My team’s work isn’t distributed any differently based on seniority, and we’re all doing the same subject matter. We have a new GC changing it so bonus can be higher (but not lower) if you take on more work.

Do you think this is a fair system? Is it right to push for equal comp, especially given that there’s a new reward system for doing more work?
