If you're the sole HR person with recruitment responsibility the max I'd expect would be 7-10, anything more than that you're a recruiter not a HRBP! My advice would be to give them the stats of how much time you're spending on reviewing CVs, intervieweing, admin etc and show them the reality 👌

Woooooahhhh, you are doing the job of a recruiter as well. The most roles I’ve had are 18 with multiple head counts attached and that is hard enough, let alone being a full time HRBP on top… I feel for you, I think you should definitely start looking for a new job. Take some time off if you need to, they shouldn’t be allowed to exploit you like that.

I've been FT recruiting in-house for 15 years and the heaviest req load was 35, but there was a fair amount of duplication (hiring several for same role). There's no way you can manage 30 while also doing HRBP duties. Time to find a new job.

likeupliftinghelpful

No, that’s a recruiters job. That’s two full time roles.

like

HRBPs usually do not do the job of a recruiter. Those are two separate roles.

likehelpful

Yikes! I hate to say this, but it seems you're being taken advantage of. That is WAY too much of a workload for one person.

likehelpful

I agree. An HRBP is different from being a recruiter. Additionally 30 Reqs is about max. Anything more then that is unreasonable.

like

When they say that's normal, it almost sounds like they're trying to gaslight you. I wouldn't take it lying down. They have to understand that the workload is not consistent with the wider industry. It might be worth looking at another position.

likehelpful

This is absolutely not normal. Way back when as a ft recruiter MOST reqs I managed was 45 and that was the busiest time. There is no way you could manage that many reqs + manage as an HRBP

likehelpful

In healthcare.. they have 90-100 reqs for each recruiter. But I never heard a HRBP having reqs

like

Definitely not normal. I’d ask your manager where she/he got that 50 req per HRBP metric. What is normal for an HRBP is being involved in TA strategy and executive recruitment aligned with their business line senior leadership talent needs. Seems your org may be taking this 28 reqs too far.

like

Seem like they have you in two roles and she needs to hire a recruiter. You shouldn’t have any issues finding another job right now.

like

Oh, but I am. I've applied for tons of roles and paid hundreds of dollars on a new resume.

Yup! Which is why I'm slowly going to transition out of this industry

likesmart

I’ve never managed a single req…ever.

helpfullike

This is definitely 2 roles but high req count is common in non-profit. I have worked for a non-profit before as a recruiter and had to manage 80-120 reqs at a time and they refused to approve a coordinator for me. I eventually left. It was too much stress , too little pay.

like

I echo what everyone else is saying… this is two roles….

like

I’m an HRBP in healthcare and currently have 20ish reqs. We also have no admins to help with any administrative work. I’m looking for a new role because it would be nice to sleep now and then. It’s an impossible workload.

like

Yep. Healthcare, smh.

That's not a normal req load. I work in staffing, that is more than our senior recruiters handle and they only recruit. If they are expecting you to manage 30-50 plus hrbp responsibilities it seems to be a good time to explore other opportunities.

like

HRBP should have zero... but of you're at a smaller company where you just have to wear multiple hats anything over 10 to 15 is way too much in my experience!

like

This amount of work should be split between at least 2 recruiters, and not involve HR. Try speaking with higher level management to strategize a new plan to conquer those reqs!! You got this!

So beyond frustrated with this job market! Had an owner reach out about a CFO role last month, went through his ridiculous interview process spending ~10 hrs total. Only to be turned down due to “not enough experience”

He contacts me again weeks later - his Controller left during the search for CFO and now he has no finance dept. We talked and he wanted to extend an offer by EOW. Followed up after a week and he’d been introduced to another candidate, decided to go with her instead. What gives!?
