The term “pigeon holed” is likely the most overused term in this bowl. Being a jack of all trades and master of none is not going to be more valuable to you than being an expert at something. You might as well make whatever path you chose something you have a legitimate interest in rather than worrying about how attractive it might be for a change to a different career path. Follow your gut.
I appreciate the response. Thank you
I think your concern is legit but if it's what you really want to do, follow it. Not all of us know exactly what we want to do. Where are you based?
I live in Cincinnati but I would have to relocate to LA for this role
Almost left for one of these roles at a PE firm not too long ago. IR roles vary from place to place - some of them are more technical (involvement with Ops and FP&A and expected to thoroughly understand financial models from the deals teams/traders) and some of them are purely sales/capital raising/client-relationships oriented. Either way I don’t think you’d be pigeonholing yourself it’s a useful skill set
Thank you! I appreciate it
