I miss this too....my standard consulting weeknight if you add a post-dinner walk (if I'm in a new place), a stop at the lobby market/vending machine for a nightcap (usually candy and/or soft drink), a text to my bf to say goodnight, and replace PPT work with TV (ideally a sitcom I can put on low volume with the sleep time on) until I fall asleep

We went to a Marriott in October that was a couple hours away just to get a change of scenery. We’re both in consulting, so he spent an entire day in a year end performance meeting, and I was helping someone with slides. It was a good trip.
You’re a good story writer you know that right? It almost literally made me feel like one of those days!
OP, I saved up six figures so take a couple years off from all this to work on my writing. It’s scary but so worth it :) (also, I took online workshop classes with UCLAx while working — which let me keep writing, even if it was well after midnight once the slides were done; won a prize for a story I wrote while still employed. You can do it!)

Marriott? Peasant.
Hilton Lifetime Diamond here. That being said, I feel you OP. If I don’t get back on the road soon, my wife will divorce me. We love each other, but we need our time apart.
Stay at Marriotts, spend work and personally with your own Hilton Amex. Top status with both
So interesting, l love being at home and can do without that for the rest of my life. Never missed it once

Don't get me wrong I love being at home and have no interest in going back to the office I just specifically want to do this experience. Like maybe once every month or two.
This speaks to me
Typing this from the familiar comfort of the key bridge Marriot in Arlington.
Good to travel, even if for non work work
But is the 12th floor lounge open?

I want to come to back to a room that is super clean and the sheets are pulled over so tight that I feel guilty taking them off.
This post has got me in the feels.
Me too man.
OP I’m right there with you. Man I miss those days. I was looking at my personal Amex trying to figure out why it is always so high. FOOD. I have to pay for food and drinks now! Never realized how much I spend on food that for so many years was paid for by client.
Same! I’m still floored how much money I’m spending at the grocery store. I never really realized (until covid) how much of my weekly diet was funded by my clients.

Go to a nice dinner by yourself and have some wine
What doesn’t P1 get?

I’ve traveled throughout.
It’s just bizarre right now. The world you remember fondly isn’t here anymore.

I feel seen. 🥺
Lol you can literally do this right now... none of these are closed
Touché 😂

I miss that too! If everyone or enough people get vaccinated we will have this sooner than later! Companies are not saying this publicly yet, but the vaccine will be a major factor in reopening offices and clients allowing us onsite (will be interested to see if any companies make it mandatory). My client will vaccinate their employees on site (they didn’t indicate if mandatory or not) and we are not expected to be allowed on site until Q3/Q4 and that’s on a need by basis. I’m taking the first paid flight I can get, to anywhere.
Why?
This is always how I imagined my staff days to be and I was so excited for the experience. Now those times will never come and the fun staff years will be gone :(
Ever thought of putting your writing skills to good use, perhaps to write a book, while “they” pay for it?
I took a position with EY over a position with Marriott because EY let me travel. 😂😂😔😔😭😭
It was a cybersecurity lead.
Hahahah you guys are impossible to please! Lol back then you would complain for too much travel and now you miss that! 🤣 funny humans! 🤣
