I’m due in 3 weeks and my manager keeps giving me new work / new deadlines / putting more and more on my plate. I keep reminding her (yes her…and she has three kids of her own) that I might not be able to get to it before I’m out since my baby hasn’t shared her schedule with me…but then my boss just says something to the effect of “all the more reason to wrap it up sooner!” … anyone else dealing with this? Any ideas?

Remember that you’ll leave when that little baby decides to come. Just do what you can and it’s hers to deal with when you’re gone. You not finishing every last bit of work before a mat leave is not something she’s going to hold over you when you come back. Just get excited for the baby :) no stress 🥰

like

Ugh and I bet you’re shorter on energy than ever before! I’m sorry this is happening to you. I’d probably say in response ok I will start on this after I finish x, baby permitting. It may be better to get her to tell you priorities, even if you can’t finish anything!

like

Yeah I’ve been working to prioritize bigger projects and pushing back or delegating small things - it’s just nuts that I’m being given major new initiatives.

Yes, take a deep breath. Don't panic. When this happens, you say, ok, and in full transparency, there is a possibility that I may not make this deadline. However, in the interest of ensuring that whomever, may have to take on this work in my absence is fully aware of what is going on I will be:

here are a few options you can use:

1. CC'ing XXX on all email correspondence so that they may be able to address any issues and complete the work in my absence.

2. At the end of the (day/week/whatever you are comfortable with), send an email as to the status of each project and any outstanding actions made.

3. If you have a shared folder, leave instructions on where any working documents may be and a status of the document as well as details on outstanding items.

***Remember, you are pregnant and technically in a protective class. Do what you can, but do not stress about this. You have bigger things to focus on. Congrats Mama!

Are you able to take any PTO before the due date? I took 3 weeks off and honestly best decision ever because I just could not deal with stuff at that point. I’m sorry you are dealing with that and congrats!

I wish! I don’t have a paid maternity leave policy so it’s just short term disability (60% pay for up to ten weeks) plus my vacation time that I’ve saved. I’ll only get 12 weeks total so Im hoping to work up until I go into labor.

My old employer asked me if I wanted to come back to the company as a manager. The pay will likely be much better and the position holds more responsibility than I’ve had before, so overall it would be a step up. The issue is I left the company because of an abusive manager who constantly put me down and made me feel like I wasn’t doing anything right. If I come back I’d be working under her again. I’m torn because the opportunity is great but the stress was awful. Continued in comments…

Im a RN and took on a new role working in Home Health. I chose this position because My husband & I recently moved to PA with our 2 kids (1&3), with no family available for his residency program with a hospital. If you know that life, I’m pretty much the main parent for our kids. I don’t want to work in the hospital/floor work anymore; nor do I believe the hrs are flexible enough. I need a job that’s flexible for the kids but pays >$44/hr. Maybe remote or hybrid? Please help w/ suggestions.

Was chatting with a CD at my agency and he mentioned that it’s harder for a middle age white guys like him to get a good job right now because agencies are hiring more woman and POC CDs. God that was uncomfortable. People are so not self-aware. Saying that to a minority. Really?? I bet it’s still easier for white men to get more offers than me. 🤦‍♂️

I am only 4 months into being a surgical coordinator. I love the position itself however I am struggling to adapt into my new work environment. My position puts me in a place where I need to interact with my new coworkers but they are not as welcoming as I expected. There is also another surgical coordinator however I have come to find from other staff that there is a long history of her running other staff away and not fully training other surgical coordinator staff properly. Any suggestions?

Now I got married and moved to UK , plus we have got a baby in 2019 so now I am looking for a job in UK having 3 years of career break. Although, I am getting CIPD lvl 7 diploma this year. I am not ready for team leader's role now . So my question is about HR area, where could I find a job with my only Russian experience? HR generalist, C&B analyst, HR BP, recruiter?

Monday Morning rumination: unsolicited advise is criticism.

Much to reflect on with this topic. Last week I was told in a 1:1 with a new contact that I was “too direct”. After some time chewing on the conversation I was struggling to place the emotions I was feeling. Turns out I was feeling guilty and shame for being me, for taking up space. Lesson of the week: unsolicited advice is a criticism of you, a micro aggression of who you are, and being “too much”. What would you do??

Would you feel comfortable telling HR that your service line’s culture sucks and name the individuals who cause it? Or is a better approach saying it’s the leadership in general creating a negative and toxic culture? How effective are these conversations really? Trying to assess if there’s any point in bringing this up. Obviously HR works for the company and an employee sharing their thoughts on the unsupportive, cold leaders could bite me in the long run.

Is it safer to be at a privately owned company during a recession. Obviously understand it would depend on management/company.
