I started a side hustle that was on theme with the brand I wanted to join. So that made an easy portfolio piece for them to realize there was a good fit. I think sometimes it’s hard for them to relate to agency work.
Love this and the last point is v true
I worked in-house at a big tech company for a few years. It can be hard to find a FT role because they are few and far between. The folks that get those FT roles are usually CDs by the time they come in-house and often filled by the close friends of the current employees (go nepotism!). My advice would be consider trying to get your foot in the door on a short-term (3-6 month) contract. Those roles are usually filled by 3rd party recruiters like Adecco/Creative Circle/etc. It will allow you to test it out first and you can try to extend if you're happy.
What exactly is appealing to you about in-house? I’ve worked in big agency and I’m currently in-house but each startup or brand is very different. So depending on your interest and goals it can be really good or not. Happy to answer any questions.
Of course! Happy to help and discuss!
Look at brands or categories that you like.
Also, you may not necessarily find an equivalent role like say Sr. AD but could look to be in Brand Governance, Packaging, or something similar.
Look up mine in LinkedIn ! The main hub is in NY so I guess there are some positions open!
Can I DM you with a few questions?
How come?
Another way around this is look for agencies that work on brands or category verticals that you like. Look at PR agencies as well, those tend to be more niche/specialized too.
Also, does anyone know a recruiters to talk to?
“Creative People” do a lot of recruiting for in-house jobs.
