I'm extremely unhappy about the fact my team orders Chinese food every single day (M-Th) for lunch. What's the best way to approach this? Should I ask to roll off?

OP sounds like downright unhealthy team structure. Why are you being asked to cling together for everything (e.g. Lunch together same place, same hotel...). Also grow a pair and just say your peace. Like everyone here already stated if you don't want to have Chinese for lunch bring something else! Hell you could eat your lunch with your team and maybe show them your (hopefully healthy) ways! Lead the pack, be different. But most importantly be you.

like

Haha this is hilarious. OP is it the idea of it that you're against rather than the actual food? Because then I get that. My advice is to ease into it. There are a couple of places out there that does this whole boxed lunch for a week thing (kind of like blue apron but you don't have to cook it). get that. Tell them how awesome and healthy and tasty it is and they'll be fine with it. On the second week of doing this skip one day of this prepared meal and be like "I'm going to cheat and order Chinese food with you all if that's ok" and then go back to the meals and you'll be in the clear. That way they know you still like Chinese food, you just got on a new diet.

As simple as " I will get something else"

like

OP, please provide conference bridge for discussion with engagement partner when you ask to roll off the project because of lunch being Chinese food every day. We'd all like to listen to that conversation.

like

How is this even a problem?

like

Man, OP, you racist AF.

like

M1, to save money and time the team always insists on ordering from the same place. I wouldn't normally have a problem with Chinese food (I love Chinese food and Asian food) but I feel like the sodium content is too high, and it's starting to get boring having to eat the same type of food every day. It's been like this for about 2 months and I can't take it anymore

like

Yes please ask to roll off. Clearly the logical solution here.

like

Ya tell your team in the coming 'spring roll' me off . They would understand

like

Start ordering your own food, or better yet stop at a grocery store Monday then bring food. I started doing this bc the way my team are was driving me crazy. You don't *have* to follow the crowd and it's not mandatory that you eat what they eat. Who knows, others may defect from the pack after they see you do your own thing.

like

@OP clearly you're trolling. Lol. Good job.

Ah, FB is so brutal sometimes. OP, rolling off a project or escalating to a partner / leadership about a lunch issue is way too extreme. You're not under duress and no one can force you to eat something you don't want to. You have options you can explore: 1) All Chinese restaurants have healthier options (if that's the issue) like steamed chicken and veggies 2) Simply say it doesn't work for you, politely, and order your own meals 3) Many hotels can pack you a lunch that you can take with you in the morning (like a sandwich and fruit) 4) Mention it to your manager in a 1:1 and proceed with 2 or 3 above if you're worried about something Don't let yourself get so frustrated about solvable things that you let good judgment and logic go out the door. Treat it like any other problem to be solved.

like

Update: Partner laughed at me and said we're going to a 'Thai' restaurant for dinner

like

Why don't you tell them to order something else? Or Better yet bring your own food in?

like

I can't stop laughing. Thanks OP. If you're not trolling, your manager def is. 2 months??

like

Sounds like you've exhausted all options. Definitely escalate both internally to project partner(s) and to client preferably the main project buyer or even better to the buyer's boss, try to get the ear of a board member if at all possible.

like

The fact that this is your problem. Speechless.

like

OP has gotten a lot of good advice but seems to be stuck in "I am helpless" mode.

like

If you can't speak up for yourself enough to simply say that you're sick of Chinese food and will be choosing a healthier option, I have no idea how you'll ever make more difficult judgement calls and be a successful consultant....
