I’m frustrated. I’ve been in the job market for an ungodly amount of time, applying to various companies and have had zero luck.

I’m getting worried nothing will pan out and would really appreciate words of wisdom. Given our current situation, I understand the job market isn’t too hot right now but, are there any companies you’d suggest looking into that are hiring? Ideally, I’d like to work client-facing (sales, BDM, partnerships etc.) please help!

I was in a similar situation in winter 2020 basically the time where I moved from Germany to London and had zero luck. Also tweaked my CV several times for no luck.

A couple of things gave eventually the break through for me and I got much more interviews.
- CV: highlighting achievements instead of describing my activities
- Applying on LinkedIn on jobs that are less than 48h old
- Contacting recruiters directly
- Applying at younger Start-ups

During my time competition was extremely high due to people losing jobs because of Covid and applying for anything. There were >300 applicants for a random job.
Now employing people myself, we tend to fill roles asap. If the job ad is online for 7 days you can assume we have already 10 candidates and potentially don’t really require more. Therefore I think applying only on very recently published jobs can alleviate the frustration.
And btw I have seen lots of shitty CVs but invited people anyways if the skills seemed good.

I don’t have much to say other than just keep working on it and keep refining your skills and resume. I’m employed but have been applying for months and have gone on countless interviews, many 3-4 rounds to be told they had to give preference to internals. It sucks.

Try to refine wherever you get stuck in the process. If you apply and don’t hear back, it could be your resume. If you interview and don’t hear back, it could be you interview skills, etc.

Hang in there, friend 🙏🏼

Definitely re evaluate your path and expectations. It took me a whole year to find a job only because I was focused on one industry, but when I reevaluated the job market and my needs, I ended up finding the right role in a different industry.

Thank you!

Have you gotten your resume professionally reviewed, specifically by people who design/write them to be picked up and seen far more frequently on an ATS (application tracking system)? I find that many people I help, at least in the tech sector, are much more successful with getting interviews after having their resume rewritten.

I’ve had mentors and friends review my resume- do you recommend any services in particular? I’ve always been told to tweak my resume to fit the positons I’m applying to.

Currently interviewing for a designer role at Tesla - wanted some advice. The hiring manager has seemed uninterested and always dropped off interviews early and without answering any of my questions. He also mentioned that he's lost 4 designers from the team recently (red flag!). I think it'd be a cool role, but it sounds like I'd be the only designer and there's not a ton of support, BUT if I do well - lots of room for growth and promotion. Plus internal transfers after a year also an option?

I’m looking for some additional tips and/or specific things to focus on in preparation for the multi-round interview process for a role at Amazon Web Services in what I assume is for one of the cloud services team. From what I’ve gathered, is the interviews are largely based on the leadership principles. However, how do I know which would be asked? which would be more related to the role/or team I’d be on? What other types of questions to prepare for leading to the 1-on-1 with the hiring manager

Hi

I have been interviewed by
Google, the final interview happened 3 weeks back. The feedback I received from them is positive and they are saying that they are in process to release my offer just due to economic issues, its getting delayed in receiving approval for the requisition.
Every week they are saying next week.

Is this really common? Should I wait like this indefinitely or am I doing some mistake?

YOE-4

Thanks

I was promoted early this year from an assistant “hourly” role to a managerial “salary excempt” role, but my old job hasn’t been replaced and it’s been 5 months. It’s an unfair workload and assisting someone else takes up so much time that I can’t learn and develop in the managerial role. And I find myself constantly working overtime and not getting paid fairly, even with the pay raise I got when I was promoted. I want to send my employer an email saying they’re in violation of FLSA.

I’ve just been offered a position at a new company. Very excited about it, but I just found out I’m pregnant. I 100% know I want to take at least 8-12weeks post delivery. The new job does not offer maternity leave nor do I think I would qualify for FMLA yet. Do I tell them I’m pregnant and to approve my leave BEFORE I accept the position? I don’t care if I’m paid during leave, I just don’t want to get fired.

There's a debate about this going on in the Google bowl, which I find interesting. Most people are saying they don't have a problem with this, but I think it's deeply unfair.

The argument that resonates with me is that if you move to a LCOL city the value of your output isn't all of sudden worth 25% less.

Curious what others in the industry think.
