I’ve also found alumni groups to be really powerful.
I’ve joined sports leagues to meet folks! You do not need to be athletically inclined to play kickball...
Also have asked friends if they know literally anyone in the area and usually you can make a few connections that way!

Try meet ups. They are in every city and based around age, interests, etc. Good starter intro to a city
Yes normally I would say fitness classes or art classes or any type of classes on things you like. Right now it'll be hard to do anything IRL so I would at least suggest joining Facebook groups in your neighborhood (just search on FB) or "Buy Nothing" neighborhood Facebook groups where neighbors share free stuff. Often on these pages, people chat and you could even ask people if they want to do a book club or something. If you're a lady, I am personally into the Ladies Get Paid slack community and the Tech Ladies in-line community. Ladies get paid has channels for different cities and they often have meetups (that are now virtual meetups) about all kinds of awesome things. HIGHLY recommend.
Tech Ladies *online community. Used to be a Fb group but now is on Mighty Networks. Just google it if you're a lady who works in or near tech.
