Happy Monday / Tuesday / W/TH / Friday / April / (insert holiday im working on here) Everyone (everyone is optional), Hello my favorite coworkers, Hello my sweet / brilliant / helpful/ talented(brand name) team, (these compliment approaches are best when asking the group for a request, or making a positive update or announcement— but please don’t use on a negative email or it could come off as incredibly passive aggressive!!) Howdy, Hola, — Now I feel like I’ve revealed my true identity.
Don’t say Hola unless you actually speak Spanish and your email is in Spanish. It’s irritating AF.
Words. They mean things. That meaning can change with time. This descriptivist view of language allows for the constant stream of updates to the dictionary every year. Adding new words, extending new meanings to existing words... But, there’s also the prescriptivist school of thought to consider. That deviating from a word’s intended meaning is incorrect. If you want to hold to the descriptivist view that words derive their meaning from usage and adapt over time (to change from guys meaning men to guys meaning people)... then it should require allowing for the use of “hey guys” to evolve again, back to its prescriptivists gendered meaning.
Y’all 🤠🤠🤠

Try removing the greeting all together. No one will notice and you'll save yourself a few hours a year.
I do too. It feels rude.

Hey, Sarah, Mike, Kay, Morgan, Dave, Julie, Deb, Trey and Steve.
Someone recently told me that they had a former client that found “hey [name]” to be rude. And now I’m rethinking ever single client email I’ve ever sent. I’ve moved to “hi [name or team].” It’s weird that the word “hello” usually feels too formal. I have bigger things to worry about than this. 🙄
People’s sensitivities are getting so absurd...
