Put yourself in the shoes of someone that actually reads resumes. I basically read the headlines and look at the bullets if it’s interesting. Idk more than 1 just makes me think you have no self awareness
If partners w 30 years of experience can have a 1 page resume so can you
1page rule is bs.
I do 2 pages. Haven’t had any issues with it.
Depends on position you are applying to — if its something that requires less than 5 years experience then never more than one page. On the other end, where it requires 20+ years experience...if you can describe 20 years of professional work experience in one page AND include other resume items, then you aren’t giving the details and narrative needed.
Basically, if someone is coming out of college with a 3-5 page resume then they probably don’t know how to write a resume. If someone is applying to a f100 leadership position and sending in one page then they probably aren’t qualified or also don’t know how to write a resume.
M1 - partners with 30 years experience go through a much different recruiting process. A business card saying Partner - “insert B4 here” is fine. For the rest of us we have to tell a story with that resume
That’s fine I have 30 years and it’s 2.5.
I had my Accenture recruiter help me with mine. They suggested 2 pages. Guess they aren’t up in the trends:)
I am up to 5 pages. lol
Adjust your margins and font
Cut out any repeated skills and unrelated jobs
1 Page
On the topic..1 page..if not I will question your ability to prioritize
1 page. It isn’t about being comprehensive. Do TV commercials list out every detail of the product??? That’s what a resume is
The message is most important and make sure you can get it across is 30 seconds or less. If it’s more than a page do be it
7 years here - going for a director level position @f500 - 1 page got me interviews. Focus on most relevant then at the bottom you can have a section prior experience - just list position and firm
A friend at the SM level in industry (Fortune 50 pharma) is at 3 pages, and others she’s reviewed are at up to 5.
Fishbowl - I’ve seen people say 1 page only.
So what really is best? Show breadth of work or show brevity? Does it matter if you’re looking outside of consulting?
1 page!
Mine is 1 page for whatever that is worth. Nobody cares about my job as an ice cream truck driver in college. They do care about how I helped a F100 do x, y and z, but only if I've done it in the last few years.
Ok C1 well I am telling you I think resumes longer than 1 page show a clear lack of self awareness, and the majority of folks on here agree on 1 page unless you are a PHD.
But this is kind of a stupid thing to debate, if you want to have a 3 page resume more power to you
If you were at the senior manager level, and you are truly trying to go for a solid position, likely you should’ve seen C level resumes all the way on down… What would you suggest for your clients for what they should be looking for? I tend to think unless you are a true executive, no more than two pages. I even have a tough time thinking the second page is warranted.
