Posts like this make me ask why people work in ID. A 60 hour requirement is absurd. If you don’t mind me asking, what year are you and how much are they paying you for that requirement? I wouldn’t work for a firm with that minimum requirement even if it paid NYC biglaw market salaries.
135k?!?! Paralegals with overtime are making drastically more for doing a lot less. You’ve gotta get out of there.
Why the f would you ever sign up for this?
I have friends at the great sweatshops of big law who aren’t expected to bill 240 hour months consistently. When I was in big law if I went north of 220 in a month, I’d expect to work fewer hours the following month
Dude, I’m in Big Law and 167 per month is considered on target. Sure, we tend to average a lot higher, but I can’t imagine doing 60 billable per week, every week, especially with the billing restrictions I hear about in ID. Just a few weeks at that pace leaves me totally exhausted and burnt out.
Edit: Hell, if you’re able to manage that pace, you should try to find a big firm to take you. ID may not get a ton of respect, but lots of firms need bodies right now. You could pitch yourself as a candidate for a junior position. You’d still be making more money, probably for less work.
What jurisdiction is this? Ask for a raise and tell them why you should get it but have a back up plan to leave if you don’t. I wouldn’t accept less than 20k
I worked @ an ID firm at the start of my career and was able to leave for a regional commercial practice. No doubt one of the best decisions of my career.
It’s absurd that the competition for reliable work is so intense that these firms will take the work for a well under market rate.
