When you do work for school (lesson planning and/or grading), do you keep the TV or music on in the background? I like to, but it's also distracting and makes me way less efficient.

To the partners/directors/senior managers: can you give examples of mistakes/lessons you learned throughout your careers? Any really big F-Ups that really made you think about staying/leaving?
Selling a Yamaha digital piano! Includes a free 60 min intro digital lesson 🥳 DM for more info!
Are you finding it easy or challenging to translate your "in person" lessons to an online format?
Have any of your firms or law departments planned firm or department-wide fundraisers, pro bono projects, or volunteer events that specifically offer legal assistance to combat racial inequality? We can donate money or time individually, but a small group of us at my firm are brainstorming ideas that would make a bigger impact with some sort of large scale effort. Such a daunting concept. Any ideas, lessons learned or cautions would be much appreciated!
Consulting lesson #123- The year you are up for promotion is always the year with the stiffest competition
We just started using the Classroom Assessment Scoring System in our programs to measure quality of interactions and lesson plans. I think it's been one of the most meaningful tools for providing feedback to teachers.
What are some of lessons you have taken from consulting; my new one: You can send emails up to 2000 feet down into Grand Canyon
What is the best lesson plan template you have used? I need something quick but detailed to use weekly.
Hi 🐠 Any lessons learned/tips for finding an industry job? I know it’s a broad question, but have only worked for pwc since grad (7+ years ago), and appreciate any feedback. Process seems daunting.
Why do people talk on obnoxious calls in the middle of the team room? Self awareness, please. How is this not a lesson you learned, I don't know, by existing more than a day on the planet?
Advice wanted: My firm lied about our raises this year. They said we’d match the other top 10 firms, and that was absolute BS. I’m having a hard time staying motivated. I’m doing senior level work without the title or pay. Fresh college grads are getting paid more than me. I’m already job searching, but I feel bad that I don’t have the same drive as I did before when I thought I would be receiving a proper raise. I learned my lesson. Any advice for a young professional?
What is the senior principal starting salary range Slalom Consulting if you are coming in with consulting experience? What is their 401k policy? And typical new hire signing bonus? Do they have a negotiation pattern?
Comp question - what should a B4 Senior with a CPA, CFF, CFE, and a MBA with 4 years forensic exp (D&T) and 6+ years non-forensic exp (industry) in NYC and DC markets expect in this current climate?
After nearly 20 years in the military serving in T&E and HR roles, I’m considering moving on and have been conducting lots of research into consulting. BS, MA, and SPHR cert - no MBA. I’m looking for suggestions or advise about transitioning. DC Metro area is likely landing spot.
Do any fish out there have excoriation disorder (chronic skin-picking)? I acquired this really bad habit while WFH and am starting to fear that I will not be able to kick it before going back on-site. My finger tips are always bleeding to some degree or missing skin lol. Might freak the client out. Would appreciate advice if anyone has kicked this habit.
I’m a Manager up for Sr. Manager this upcoming year and want to start gathering support from the Sr. Managers and Partners. How have you handled these discussions? Any tips/do’s/Don’t’s. I have discussed this in prior years but want to make sure everyone is aware. I have been a high performer throughout my career but just got back from my maternity leave and feel a bit disconnected.
I haven’t taken any vacation (other than one day here and there) all year. I’m taking two weeks off at the end of November and just told a partner and he was shocked (presumably at the length). Is this a faux pas?
I owe so much to this bowl! I'm finally putting in my 2 weeks notice and leaving for a whopping over 70% increase in TC!! Current TC: $87k (most likely would increase to $92k if I get bonus and promo next month) Offer TC: ~$150k+ ($110k base, $20k+ bonus, $20k rsu) YOE: 1 year Trust me, don't give up. I fell into severe depression ever since I started my consulting analyst career out of college, saw 5 therapists, gained 10 lbs, and broke relationships. I'd love to give back to you all here!
Client on video shoot after nitpicking every fucking word of my copy: You know, maybe I’ll go into creative. It looks like fun!
I am looking for a new data science job. Any leads here? I prefer to be in the Washington DC area or remote. I would like to stay in the healthcare space.
What is everyone thinking about sending their kids back to school in a few weeks? From a safety standpoint, I want kids to stay home, but from a learning and mental wellbeing standpoint, obviously kids benefit most from physically being the classroom. I also don’t know how parents are going to manage working from home as well as monitoring their kids throughout the school day. (Let’s keep this respectful)
Been 6 months since my i140 was Approved. Just started my 5th year of H1B, priority date not current and I’m from India. Would it be any risk if I were to switch employers now even if my new employer’s PERM is delayed/denied/RFEd? Can I get my unlimited H1B extensions based on my current employer’s approved i140?
If you haven't had your CRT yet because your RP is MIA (which isn't out of the ordinary), should you be concerned about layoffs?
Thoughts on exiting to IB subsidiaries of public accounting firms (big 4 corporate finance, baker tilly capital, bdo capital, etc). I know they’re not necessarily equivalent to going to a BB or even a pure play MM IB but can they still open up good exits and create better MBA prospects than say transaction services experience?
SO and I are asking a weekend trip to San Diego from Chicago in early feb. Best SPG property? Don’t really care about luxury, more convenience and location. Also do we need a car? Thanks!
Any advice for those really struggling with motivation and tiredness? I’m split across three modules and feel constantly tired and unproductive. With WFH I’ve got into a bad habit of taking naps during the day, and trying to cram the work in the evening, which is somewhat okay for getting through the day-to-day, but I feel like it will all come crashing down soon, plus it leaves no time to do anything I enjoy.
