I'm glad we're having these conversations about race, gender, wages, etc in an reasonable way that doesn't involve flagging posts. As a black female it's hard to ask coworkers directly what (contd)

I'm Asian American and when people ask me where I'm from and I tell them (Boston), then they follow up with "But where are you ORIGINALLY from/REALLY from." Like they want me to say Japan or Korea or China or something, but dude I was born here and I've ever been to those places.

As a white lady raised in the nominal south (what the heck IS Austin Tx?), but living north and traveling south frequently, I sadly see that there is still a strong set of color, sex, and increasingly perceived national origin based hierarchies. You have to really break out hard on some other 'credential ' like frequent traveler or clearly have money or language and accent or some such, to 'break in line'. Yes. This sucks. Yes. This hurts. And yes I call people out on it. But EVERYONE has to refuse to play, for yourself AND others.

I saw the post from the black lady Doctor on the delta flight this morning. Who's even surprised that her flight crew dismissed her before hearing her out? Most of the FAs I see are the quickest to talk down to anyone who doesn't immediately send out "I fly all the time" vibes, which most often come from white guys in their perception. I've also seen some coworkers on the receiving end of blatant discrimination while on travel to the south.

DD1 -Yeah, that about matches my husband's preferred retirement locations (less NJ and CA for weather and seismic reasons). And he won't even take the 'southern route' to visit my family in TX anymore.

@P1 I get the same thing. People insist that I'm pure African. Sorry not sorry folks my family is from Philly.

SM1 people act like I'm closed minded when I say I'll never live in the south, but come on. Why would I subject myself to that. Here's a map of all the places I'll never live: https://goo.gl/images/9Fv4HA

A white friend is looking to buy an apartment. One apartment is in an older building in an established neighborhood. It doesn't have an in-unit washer/dryer. The other apartment is in a brand new building in a historically black neighborhood that has seen a lot of gentrification but it's still near a project with a gym, a nice roofdeck with a grill and in-unit washer dryer and costs $100k less. She's considering the first place despite it being more expensive and older. Racism is expensive.

Hello industry folks, really need your career advice - YOE 4.5, CTC - 6.4 LPA, ICICI Recently transitioned from an operations role to Product Manager role. Got a new opportunity with Infosys as Senior Associate Consultant Banking Domain for 11LPA+1L Joining Bonus. Now, as I transitioned to PM role, there are tons of opportunities to learn and grow, however, CTC and hikes are meagre. Whereas, with the new opportunity, CTC is good, but cant figure out what career would be in Infosys and after.
