So I've had 2 hiring managers and several recruiters from Amazon reach out to me about applying for some open positions with the company (android). I completed the coding assessment and now they want me to go through a round of 5 hour interviews next week. Is there a good chance I'll be hired if engineering managers are reaching out to me? I'm really not sure how badly I want to work for them and I don't want to be laid off months after being hired on. Anyone know what Amazon hiring is like?

If they lay you off while on paternity/maternity leave, is that cause for legal action? I think you’ll be good. Would be a terrible look for the company to axe someone while on leave
They would just offer a small severance and probably pay you off for the paternity leave. Still should be worried. Always should be worried. Most companies are at will and can lay you off not to mention odds are you arnt going to go purse a legal action when you’re a newly unemployed parent.
OP stay strong but get your finances in order and don’t count on the paid time off.
They can’t do it while you’re on parental leave. It’s illegal.
Refer to your title and first sentence, then you tell us. I’d say your return date matters, and how fast you get working after that date.
For an SM when no layoffs are planned, most firms have a return timeline to be productive. That’s what matters. It’s illegal to be fired on leave. If OP hasn’t told anyone he’s going on leave yet (which I’d recommend not telling, given it’s a ways out) then that’s the only risk, because they aren’t planning layoffs in the meantime.
A lot of individual and firm/practice factors to weigh here. That said a shorter leave is probably better than longer at this time. Can you break it up and delay some of it?
Take the time with your baby. They are little only once ever.
I think you should take your leave accordingly. Finding help now is harder than ever and you’ll never get that initial baby time back.
That’s a really good point that I hadn’t even thought of.
