I'm going to an interview and I'd like to wear a pencil cut dress (either red or mocha, goes past my knees) and a blazer and black heels. Is a dress + blazer combo appropriate/formal enough?

Don’t wear a red dress to an interview. Does the blazer match the shoes? Does the mocha shade match the black? Some black/brown combos are ok but most are not. Wear hosiery for the interview, even in the summer. Unless you’re from the west coast or some other surfy casual place where people wear tan suits and linen. Other than that, the answer really depends on the field/position/organization. Nonprofit/legal services are way more casual than biglaw. Small/medium firms might be fine with that unless they’re conservative. Honestly a navy blue skirt suit with cream pumps and a matching shell (w/pearls) is my go-to because it fits pretty much every environment and you don’t have to think about it. Won’t come across as overly stuffy like a black suit might, not as casual as grey, and you don’t have the dress or pants dilemma. Plus it looks good on literally everyone.
