What’s the most you would ever consider contributing to retirement accounts? The max for us is $97k. Which is $58k for a Solo 401k for me, and $39k for both 401k and 457b for spouse.
New immigrant here. When people say “max out your 401k” is there a deadline for it? (Like now?) or is it something that you do every month? I haven’t set it up yet. Is too late for this year? TY!
Does anyone know what the 2021 401K and IRA contributions limit are? Currently trying to figure out benefit contributions
If you live with parents, would you max our Roth 401k ($19.5k) and after-tax retirement account ($15k) instead of investing through an individual brokerage? The after-tax $15k can be rolled into the Roth 401k right? Thinking of doing this since I can pull principal out of my Roth 401k after 5 years. Am I missing something here? Any better options?
Hello, I am 36 and have over 250k in savings. I started saving late (at 32) as I didn’t make much and lived in NYC. I used to be on a visa and had little to say on my salary negotiations. Upon getting my green card, my salary doubled when I changed jobs and I started saving extensively. Today I make around 180k a year and am able to save $4.5k a month and 7% towards 401k. I have no kids and I am looking to maximize savings. Any advice? Thanks!
Anyone have any good recommendations for Financial Advisors / Wealth Mgmt? TC: 105k, I max out my 401k but feel lost with what to do after that - still paying student loans, but should have those done within the year. Didn’t come from any money so a lot of this is foreign to me - thanks!
Just read that there are no caps to rolling over funds from 401k to IRA. Is there any benefit to keeping my money in a 401k vs an IRA? I was thinking maybe employee matching would be impacted as I'm not sure if the process involves my 401k balance at all or just the contributions. I would want to roll over my 401k into an IRA to be able to invest in a wider range of stocks and not just the selection made available by my employer. https://www.investopedia.com/401-k-vs-ira-contribution-limits-4770068#:~:text=While%20there%20are%20annual%20contribution,qualified%20retirement%20plans%20into%20IRAs.
What was the first true asset you bought (positive income generation) and how did you decide on it? Not talking about stocks or 401k, more secondary property to rent, small business, etc. Thanks!
My little calculator feature on my 401k dashboard told me today I need to be saving 3x my current contribution to meet the "double your salary by 35" quota they tout. I just got this salary a year ago and would be in track with my old salary...but can't afford to put that kind of money into it right now to catch up. How does this whole benchmarking thing work if your salary keeps increasing and then you have even more catching up to do? 32 YO and still under $100k in retirement help!
What do you want to do when you retire?
Of those who aren’t sure whether they would stay in US or go back to India - do you still max out 401K as well as put into HSA? I did start maxing out 401 before tax but still skeptical about going the HSA route :-/
Can someone walk me through how to do a backdoor Roth. I have a traditional IRA with Vanguard and with the max contributed for this year. But I don’t have a Roth account. Can I still roll the $$ over? Is there any point to rolling it over now while I’m above the Roth contribution limit? Or should I wait until I leave this job for a lower paying gig sometime in the next few years? Also, I I am maxing out my 401k and cannot take a dedication on the contributions to my traditional IRA.
Sitting with a college friend who is in KPMG and just bragged that she is enrolled in a pension plan sponsored by KPMG and it is separate than 401K . I doubt this . Can anyone from KPMG confirm?
Does it make sense to not ever buy a place in the Bay Area and just invest the money in SPY, and keep my RSU, maximize my ESSP and 401k? This is the most effortless approach for me, plus, I do not want to buy a place around 1M but translate to 1 hour of commute to my work. Anything wrong with it? For the record, I do have real estates in Seattle too.
Any finance wizards? Paying for grad school - Should I, Roll 401k into IRA and then take education distribution (full pay with this). This method incurs income tax but no penalty. Or Pay with cash and then the rest with 401k/IRA rollover and educ distribution Or Max out loans? I was thinking of loans given the interest rate is like 4-5% and you can always pay them off with the other methods in the future if you want... and you may not always have the opportunity to take on debt.
Should I rollover my old 401k(s)? I do backdoor conversions so ITA is out. All my accounts are with Fidelity so it's not a hassle to manage separately [cont]
Not sure if this is the right forum to ask this question, but engineering MS degree (e.g. applied stats, CA) vs MBA if I wanted to do product management? I am a 2nd year BA looking to go back to the States via grad school (was initially kicked out cuz of Trump) so debating which option would be better if i wanted to transition into PM. My undergrad major was Econ

From consulting to investing / lending - anyone has guidance on how to make the move? I’m a consulting manager with finance experience pre-MBA. Thinking about pivoting into investing / lending but struggle to find an angle - assumed that it would be hard to break into investing but lending would be great (all the way from corporate banking to mezz). Any guidance on seeking relevant experience while in consulting?
Now that my school is completely in-person, I’m noticing that the students who were online last year are pushing back on everything we do in school. Following the most basic of rules, directions, or fun is a struggle. I teach 8th grade, but I coach in the high school. I’m seeing it across the board. Is anyone else seeing this too? Is your school or district addressing it with any preventative measures social-emotional supports?
Best software that does both project timelines, forecasting, resource management. Big plus is scope vs actuals reporting. Any reco?
I am seeing a lots of openings at Scale AI. Any idea how the company is? Any insights on the culture?
I’m thankfully hitting my hours, but my firm keeps passing non-billable work my way. I am grateful for the opportunities, but this type of work always seems to find its way to the female associates at my firm. We have been told that non-billable work is irrelevant in terms of our annual hours. Any tips on how to navigate this in a thoughtful way? I want to be a team-player, but I believe that others need to step up to the plate.
WFH = mid day gym game.
Client has indicated on several occasions that he’d like me to join their team (not being specific about role or level). I would make the move in a heartbeat if it was a step up in responsibility, but I’m not interested in making a lateral move. What should I do to move this process forward without seeming over eager or potentially damaging the client-consultant relationship if the offer isn’t compelling?
Advice for getting an internship this summer (MBA student)? Do hospitals systems do this or would I be better off looking at other areas of healthcare? Focusing on strategy and biz dev. Any advice or people willing to talk much appreciated.
Serious question: how likely is it to lateral from a different big 4 into Deloitte's S&O practice. Also how's the bench there?
I’m 2.5 years out of undergrad- young but have a strong resume/experience. I was offered a job at Salesforce that is more administrative than I’d like - do pay/culture/reputation outweigh role?
Joining McKinsey as Industry Hire in a couple of months, Any good Book recommendations to get started. I don’t have Management Consulting background so would like to polish some skills before I get started
My accounting edge finance is not compatible with the new Mac OS. I do not need the $15/month subscription they offering as an upgrade since I’m a lone freelancer. I’ve always kept my own books and did my own taxes. Anyone else out there with a basic bookkeeping program recommendation for Mac would be appreciated.
Hi! Everyone, I am a PhD turned consultant with 2 years at big 4. I was wondering if there are openings at MBB that I can apply to? I am a molecular biologist by training and do life sciences consulting in the cell and gene therapy domain.
I have a family matter to attend to in Mexico. Do I have to clear that with KPMG leadership as far as working remote for a week in Mexico?
