25M. I’m gonna spend 20k to get into the stock market for the first time ever. I’m way too late but better late than never. Also gonna save 10k in high yield savings for my 30k in student loans (in addition to monthly savings). Thoughts on this? You are not “way too late”. Throw that rhetoric out of the window. There are people who don’t even start investing for retirement until their late 30s! You’re far ahead of the average American – be proud of the position you’re in at 25.

i think i’m done with options for a while. a long while. while i was doing well recently intraday, my longer term short positions were getting blown out of the water. it’s exhausting watching them go to shit, and it’s also exhausting trading intraday. the whole thing is just exhausting. it’s hard to focus on anything else when you’re down.

Desi Fam,

This question is to home owners in America.

What are the major factors you have considered before buying home?
How much percentage you have put in as down payment.
Are you satisfied with your decision

Please share your opinions.

1.2M 30-yr fixed mortgage. Should I go with option 1 or option 2?

Option 1: Rate - 2.5% with $1,500 credit

Option 2: Rate - 2.375% but I pay $4,500 in points.

Is $227/sq ft for a single-family house built in 2015 in McKinney reasonable enough (avg school rating is 8)?

How much is an acceptable down payment for a home? I've seen some great listings asking for 10%, whereas some others are requesting up to 50%. Is this normal and what does it depend upon?

Under contract for nearly 1.1M. Wife and I are at HHI $315k. Will go up in the future, $400k in 3 years and $500k possible in 5-7 years. We have $300k in non-retirement funds, $260k of which will go towards acquiring the house. We have 2 kids and will probably reduce (not maxing) retirement accounts next 18 months to do this. Anyone have any thoughts or feedback? We’ll have to live on a budget and watch but I feel we’ll get used to it and income will grow.

Hi all. I’m looking for houses as primary residence. Some need a lot of work, including taking down walls (potential load bearing) and reconfiguring kitchen. Who would or could I talk to first to get a sense of how much a remodel on a particular home would cost? I want to make sure the possible reconfigurations work for me and are in line with my full/overall budget. Would I go to a designer first? Thank you!

I got offered by my financial advisor to enter a closed private equity fund that has the objective (not guarantee) to 2x the capital in 10 years. That would mean a consistent 7.2% p.a. though I won't be able to sell, which is not a problem.

Do you think it's worth it?

I use this financial advisor because he's a family friend and I pay close to no fee and it was a nice way of getting into investing.
