My tip is to stop using vlookup and use index match
1. Before you start a slide, ask yourself what you want people to understand after reading it. Make that your title or a strongly worded statement.
2. No more than three font types, 4 max. This includes font styles, fonts, sizes, colors, etc. If you think you need more, your point isn’t strong enough.
3. Simple charts and data. Bullet points. You are the expert, not your slide - be prepared to speak to each point with facts, but don’t overload your slide. That’s what appendices and excel sheets are for.
4. No clip art.
5. People notice breaks in patterns. Use that to your advantage.
6. Tell the story to yourself beforehand to see if it makes sense, or to measure whether its engaging for your audience. Now, turn that into an overview with a ToC. Make each sub plot a slide. If this is an interactive group, there is typically a bell curve for the presentation where heavy amounts of time are wasted on one or two slides; organize your storyline to support your clients bell curve.
That’s all I can think of for now. For inspiration, check out prezi and design magazines but always keep things simple. Oh, and Accenture has many templates on brand space and regional/industry sites. Use those for starting points
I have a folder in my outlook called “slides i like”- saves slides from others presentations. it’s a great reference for when i need design inspiration
MCs*
Before even going into PPT wasting time, write out the storyboard in terms of headers and what you want to say. For each title think about how many concepts will be on the slide, I generally try to stay to 3-5. Then use other good decks you seen as inspiration for design of slide(s), draw concepts on a piece of paper and then explain to your team to start actually creating in PPT. I’ve found this greatly reduces time wasted
That’s such a good idea D1, I suck at making decks and just ask my seniors to help my visions come to life 🤭
maybe for MCs it comes natural after how many gazillion decks they have created. just like vlookups, which is muscle memory for me, and it still amazes other people. any other tips?
OP do you outline your content beforehand? I found my trouble lessened when I wrote out my deliverable first, giving me a clear guide to what I needed to convey on each slide. This made it clearer what the slide needed to look like
S1, yes I do that. it’s more of how the info is presented rather than the content
Take the accenture training on pyramid principle
whats the name of the training? i cant find
Look for Barbara Minto and pyramid principle - it should be under analyst school training for MC
