Hi, I’m graduating from my undergraduate program and I have two offers: 1) Research Analyst - Corporate Finance at BCG ValueScience Center 2) Financial Analyst - Private Wealth Management at Goldman Sachs If my ultimate goal is to become a management consultant, which one should I choose? Are the any major differences between BCG Value Science Center and BCG? Any insights on either role and company would be much appreciated!

Is this a serious question — there is a huge difference. This is like asking if the accountant of the LA Lakers is the same as being a player on the team.

Fair but the analogy holds.

Go to Goldman Sachs. Looks better and good experience

I would agree. Learning finance specific tools will pay dividends down the road.

The BCG research analyst role seems like it’s part of ‘BST/support functions/knowledge team instead of the core consulting pathway . The BCG support functions/Knowledge team WLB is great and not expected to work long hours. The downside is that it’s not the consulting part so you ll always be considered second tier. Knowledge roles are what you make of it (you can either Network get staffed on cases and do well or sit back be lazy and do the minimal but there’s no up or out system). I have seen people in knowledge roles for 10-15 years they don’t move up or not but are content as BCG is one of the best places to work in terms of ppl , benefits, training, work/social events (all employees are treated at part whether it’s HR marketing or knowledge team) The only downside of the research/knowledge team is that changing to the main consulting track is very hard (requires support of partners , normal interview process) I.e there’s only a slight advantage vs applying externally . If you want to do consulting in the long term either take option 2 or take a core consulting role!

I have an offer at Google and trying to decide if I take it! It’s a level lower than where I am now and would take about two years to get to the next level. Right now I’m at KPMG as a manager and am pretty much guaranteed Director in October if I stay. TC if I stay and make Director is more than if I leave for Google. Trying to weigh the opportunity….what do I do??

Just made M at Accenture and will make $155k. I have an offer to join McKinsey as a BA for $90k. I do really like my team and projects at Accenture and was able to progress fairly accelerated to M at ACN (so maybe could keep it up for progression to SM?). But also I know how much people value the MBB brand. Thoughts?

I’m thinking of trying to pay my student loans quickly/get money for a down payment on a house sooner and want to try that by recruiting people and trying to get some big referral bonuses. I don’t care about recruiting top talent for my firm I just wanna get ahead a little. Is this worth the extra work?

Seems lot of regionalism going on at Salesforce Hyderabad office. I cleared my technical round for the DevOps role with flying colours, still was not selected there. Maybe a blessing in disguise, the interviewer gave a really bad impression of the culture. Such a nice company, sad it's located at a wrong location.

I need to get a new opportunity. Our company is now requiring to confirm whether you had been vaccinated or not and failure to disclose will result in 10% decrease in base pay.. Referral opportunities come now!!!

I am noticing that McKinsey is increasingly recruiting at non-elite schools (very roughly speaking not top 15 schools). At my old undergrad, 5 years ago the most competitive firm to show up was EY. This year McKinsey took 4 non-internship full hires. Why is McKinsey going “down market” for recruiting? Are elite school kids losing interest in consulting so McK has to cast a wider net? Or is McK seeking a wider pool for other reasons? I advise undergrads on consulting so want to be best informed.

Have 10+ years of Sales experience as a consistent top performer. Most recently managed an office for 3 years of 20+ insurance agents for one of the biggest Health Insurance carriers in US. Left at end of year and joined a Tech startup that I was given equity in. Tech startup failed. In working at Tech startup, I learned how much I enjoy tech and want to stay in field but am unsure of where to go/position I’m qualified for. I’m in Chicago, IL. Was thinking of becoming AE at Salesforce. Thoughts?

Looking for some honest opinions on a career in law: I have always wanted to be an attorney but I got married young and went the entrepreneur route as a software developer. However, now that I’m in my 30’s, I’ve started the last year of my undergrad and I’m strongly considering law school. For those of you in the field, what would you tell someone in my position? Would you recommend law school? Would you do it again? Would you discourage it?

Per my call with HR today, apparently 9 weeks of PTO in 1 year was more than what leadership had in mind per employee when the firm switched to unlimited PTO last year. Just a man trying to take full advantage of my employee benefits, what can I say lol. 🤷🏽‍♂️ (P.S. they only noticed because a manager complained, HR was not actively monitoring this).

A friend of mine gave me a referral (tech company). I went through the very hard recruiting process (without his help) and ended up receiving a very good offer (+70k TC and stocks/much larger team to lead). Friend got a referral bonus of 8k but barely mentioned it and I heard it from the HM. How would you feel? I mean he did help me getting a dream job so I shouldn’t bother, right? Also im curious: would you give the candidate (in this case myself) a piece of the 8k?

Was unexpectedly asked to roll off a project today. It was a bit of a shock because this has never happened in my career before. There were certainly things I could have done better, but I don’t feel I did anything wrong and I feel I did my best to address feedback I did receive. Aside from starting a new project search ASAP and talking to my career counselor to have my side of the story heard....what else can I do in terms of damage control? Panicking now because of all the covid layoffs...
