Hey ladies! From January I’ll have an apprentice aligned to me. They are 17 and this would be their first time with a full time job and working in an office. Any tips or advice on how to manage someone completely new to the “adult” work scene?

I have a brand new person on my team- she is totally new to the field, has recently returned to the workforce (solo mom of 3 teens), is very smart. I knew when I hired her that I’d have to lean in to get her to where she needed to be. She has a ton of potential but lacks experience in a professional setting. I need to help her level up her written communication skills. Any suggestions on books, resources, strategies? She is learning by doing and takes feedback but I want more supports for her.

Does anyone’s manager ping them almost daily to “hop on a zoom call real quick?” My manager has been doing this more and more and I often don’t see the message until 15-20mins later due to heads down work. 1. It’s annoying and 2. I worry he’s getting the impression that I’m not sitting down working due to the delay in my response. Tips on navigating this?

I have a team member who historically under performs. He’s very receptive to feedback, and there’s usually a spark in his output and contributions every time I give it- but about a month later we’re back to where we started. Team members often complain about working with him. (Doesn’t follow thru, condescending tones w/ others).

Been with us for 9 months, Earlier this year gave verbal and email feedback, now we’re on a 30 day performance review/plan.

Venting: but I need some advice. My immediate boss is fraternizing with a staff very inappropriate and gives favoritism to this individual. I spoke to him about it and HR has also communicated with me about it. Recently, an incident happened where I gave VTO to individual and he was unhappy and decided to call me all sorts of names, I got HR involved and he was suspended. Now, my boss seems to be out for me, throwing me under the bus and not once has he asked about the incident. Advice please!!

I am in desperate need of a coach/mentor outside of my organization. I report directly to the VP of HR and find myself in a tough situation. My team also reports to her and while I have her favor she clearly dislikes some on my team. I recently had two direct reports break down in our 1:1s because of her. Since she is the VP and I report to her I do not know how to navigate this situation. Is there anyone interested in providing some coaching on this?
