I was just offered a CUNY role. The title is Higher Education Assistant. According to Glassdoor, the average annual pay for that role is $83,418. However, I was offered $62,500. I requested for the minimum annual salary to be 75k. Does anyone have experience navigating the CUNY system and their pay?

I would find a good cost of living calculator first, and definitely check on Glassdoor.
I found a couple calculators (didn't even know these existed) that said I'd need a salary of 117k because CA living cost is ~54% higher than MO. But these websites also said that houses in CA cost ~112% higher 😂 I'm crushed by these numbers
To be considered middle class in the Bay Area.. It was something ridiculous like 200k+ for a combined income household. So if you want to live comfortably, aim high when it comes to income because everything is ridiculously expensive here.
Consider that 76k in Southern California will not allow you to live comfortably unless you have multiple housemates/roommates, and make many other sacrifices for your budget. Fuel alone is $6+/gallon. Highly recommend looking up the cost of living and evaluate the pros and cons. California is not cheap by any stretch.
On the flip side, California has a ton to do. After living in both Southern and Northern California for over 2 decades, I'm still not bored. It's a beautiful state outside of the cities!

Southern California is a little bit less expensive than the bay area. So look at rents in the area that you’re talking about and compare top item for top item. You are definitely going to need a very large increase to afford living in SoCal.
If you do move, the cost of living is WAY higher. You will have to factor that in. If you can find a good job out there then I would say go for it.
