I'm having an interview for a Scientist/Chemist postition in Brea, CA near Los Angeles. I live in KS/MO right now. I'm not sure what would be a good amount to ask for salary. I'm living comfortably on 76k salary while paying 1.5k mortgage. Is it a good idea to move to CA? And if so, what's a good salary?

Don’t go lower than 100k if you’re moving to California and looking to own a property

I live in San Diego, have my whole life, rents high taxes are high but I think it’s worth it to be 10 minutes from the beach, decent weather the whole year except a few days of rain(which I like), an easy weekend trip to Mexico, few hrs from the desert/mountains, lots of wineries around

Also if you are looking to buy, I know that houses in my current area are selling for 1mil+ and people are offering 200k over asking and still getting shot down

Not a chance you’ll be comfortable on 76k salary there and you won’t find anything for $1.5k

I'm trying to figure out what would be a good salary amount to ask

https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/133-Edgeburt-Dr-Encinitas-CA-92024/16708186_zpid/

I found a couple calculators (didn't even know these existed) that said I'd need a salary of 117k because CA living cost is ~54% higher than MO. But these websites also said that houses in CA cost ~112% higher. My soul is crushed by these numbers

depends on how much debt you have

I have 17k in student debts (all government subsidized so I don't have to pay until Sep 1) and a 185k house loan (3% interest). I'd say these are pretty low debts. I don't have any other debt.

I've reassured him that I would keep him in the loop should I be looking to leave. Well, I've got one final interview left with another company and they are offering me >50% more than my current salary.

I consulted for a large tech company for 3 years in various internal and external comms roles. My passion is internal/employee relations and I’m a strong writer. Even though I loved my previous team, I left for a perm role in internal that sounded exciting and paid more. It’s awful. Micromanaged, unorganized leadership, work badly edited. Am I stuck?
