Hit my hours for this week. What now?
Also idk if you’re interested in legislative work, but, at least in the state I live in, the senate/house researchers who assist in drafting statutes and other policies typically aren’t attorneys. Some are, but not the majority.
That's good to know!
I know a handful of people working in-house in compliance/risk management for a bank and regulatory compliance for medical device company. None of them are licensed attorneys, but the jobs were “JD-advantage.” A couple went to law school in the US and one just worked her way up through the company and completed some part-time program at a local law school in risk analysis/compliance.
I’d guess having a JD gives you a leg up on those types of positions but probably not enough to make it worth taking on law school debt.
Thank you thats insightful
Just my take but I think it could be helpful for you to focus your priorities once in the US on getting your foot through the door, i.e. getting the name of a highly reputable firm on your resume. Even if it’s not your intended practice group. In my experience as an expat in the US it’s infinitely harder to secure that first job offer than anything that comes after it.
That makes sense. I have been trying to figure out where to put my energy and/or focus. Wasn't sure if “any” firm would deter from my ultimate goal. But you're saying as long as it's reputable it should be ok?

What country are you coming from? Do you have work authorization in the US? Are you entry level?
I'd rather not say the country, no I don't have authorization, I assume I'd be considered entry level.
