I’m hearing a lot about supporting local businesses during this time, which seems like a reasonable way to keep money in the community. Should the fact that we’re mostly invested in large national/multi national businesses in any way change my/our thinking?

I feel like the people who are saying support local businesses with your excess cash are probably the same people who rack up credit card debt and can’t budget if their life depended on it. My wife and I are trying to save for a house and early retirement, we’ll support when we can, but I was taught that the only person you can depend on is yourself and it hasn’t ever let me down.

K1 - same on all counts. Many of our friends are loudly proclaiming how they are buying more from local businesses and buying gift cards. It’s nice to hear from others who are a little annoyed with the fervor.

I think you can do both. I am invested in the stock market in large cap funds, etc. We also buy from local restaurants because we actually like them and would eat there normally anyway. I love going to farmers markets for fresh food. Same with a local bakery or fish store. We are lucky where we live to have all of these options around us.

How do you all handle stress at work? I’m on a though project and feeling sort of hung out to figure it all myself. My stomach is in knots and I’m waking up in the middle of the night thinking about the case.

Wild that conservatives think they're on the right side of history after supporting officials who let tens of thousands die needlessly and will now try to take away people's healthcare.

How tough is it to lateral to a larger bank, or to exit into corp dev/strategy at a "large cap" company at the VP-ish level? I'm currently in IB at a smaller MM bank, but kind of trapped until I get my green card which obviously will be a few years. I don't hate my bank/team but I do feel limited by the bank (since obviously reputation/size dictates the deals the bank can win)

I’m a 2nd year and effectively just ran a deal on my own with the partner. It ran smoothly, I got praise from the partner, and the partner said that they trust me to do most stuff without their sign off (so no need to check with them in future unless I’m really unsure). Generally there is one or two mid levels above me, and I find it way harder to do my job when they are managing me. They like to keep me on the bench, get me to do minor tasks and don’t let me take responsibility and ownership.

Potentially have an offer from a local tech startup. I’m 24, currently make ~$95K base and ~$50K, with an additional ~$20K in profit sharing (so total comp around $160-170K). Offer would likely (cont)

I made limited EQ partner in 2019 . This week I was told I’m getting moved to counsel effective Jan 1. My hours were negatively impacted in 2019 by an ill parent (only child) and in 2020 multiple clients said pencils down for half the year (& additional family illness & a death), + kids. I know nothing about the counsel role. What terms/arrangements have people negotiated? I don’t know what negotiation ability I’ll have, but wanted to be better informed.
