I'm in a bit of a pickle. I'm up for promotion to senior but my mid year reviews were pretty lackluster. I was quoted as being "smart and capable of doing the job, but lazy" from my old manager. Cont.

It takes a long time to get coached out. Just hold out and see what happens. Or find a new job. Whatever.

like

Stick it out. That first manager sounds like a prick. As long as you're not an idiot (which you clearly aren't based on feedback) you will make it to senior.

like

You can't expect to be promoted to senior if you got dropped off of all your offices clients and aren't willing to do extra work as needed.

like

Fast forward 5 months I'm on a new team but I'm working with a different office because I was dropped from all my other jobs. (Other manager really was upset with me) I'm excelling and current manager is already talking about me senioring this job next year. My thing is he's from another office and probably doesn't hold much weight in me being promoted. Should I leave after busy season or just wait and see and risk being coached out?

Eh

Do you have a counselor in your own office to discuss this with? It sounds like you're a staff working directly with a manager, so maybe they're expecting more from you so they don't have to step down to do senior type work? Idk dude there is way too many variables and EY1 is correct, being coached out doesn't mean you're let go right away

Yea last manager was upset that I wasn't more willing to take on more work lol.

If you think you're going to eventually be coached out, chances are you're going to get coached out. I'd start looking

Is transferring to the office with the 2nd manager an option? It seems like a better work environment for you anyway...

Sadly it's not an option it's 4 hours away and my wife likes where we are at now. Maybe I should just jump to B4 or leave to industry

Ehhh that was overly exaggerated in my opinion. Only happened on one job and to my defense it came after an overly long busy season and I was just tired of working. Never had anyone else complain but I guess that one time did enough damage to my reputation.

If you flat out say no to extra work, you need to have a reason beyond I just don't want to do it or you're going to get the reaction you received. Even if it's "I just had a long busy season" that's fine but you need to communicate. You need to have that discussion with coach/mentor/whoever. Also, I'd phrase it "I'd prefer not to because xyz but if no one else is available, I'll try to help out."

I never turned down actual work im not crazy. I simply just didn't let her know when I was done with what I currently had to work on. I just acted busy for about an hour or two a day.

What month does BDO do promotions?

We find out in June/July

Hey. Curious of anyone hires tech talent here, but I've had some odd experiences hiring software developers where they won't come on camera for a video interview with my team and then when they get hired, it's like another person interviewed. It's happened a few times and we're just baffled. Is this a thing now?

I got a full time offer from the company I interned at this summer. However, I have been applying and interviewing at various consulting firms so far. Some of them I won’t hear back until September/October. Is it wrong to accept the offer and then reject it if I get a better offer? I don’t wanna burn a bridge with this company since I really enjoyed my experience there but I have to be smart with my decision since I graduate in December and need an earlier work start date.

How do you evaluate the financial health/viability of a startup you’re interviewing with? Are there specific questions you ask and/or external research you do? Due to a recent company-wide increase and additional pay for bilingual direct reports I am only making a dollar and change above them as their supervisor. Any suggestions on how this might be addressed?

I need some advice please. I made it to the final round of interviews for a Product Owner position. Since I’ve been dealing with rejection for almost two years of getting into Product does anyone have any tips to ace the interview? Also my goal is PM. Do you think a move from PO to PM is obtainable? I’ve done some research and according to Marty Cagan the PO & PM should be one individual. To this end is the PO position seen as redundant? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!
