I’m in a small-ish office. managing partner of my office & my practice group leader said I could work from home some days per week. Most people seem fine with it except one partner (who has most of the work to give out). Should I stick to my guns and continue to work from home on my days or should I give in to this partners’ passive aggressive side comments generally about people “not actually working” even though I’ve maintained my hours and have gotten every assignment done and done well?

The pragmatic answer is that it depends on whether you think sticking to your guns will eventually lead to less work, or much less desirable work, and affect your trajectory.

The “we have to advocate for ourselves” answer, which is the tack I’m taking, is that you should stick to your guns and prove to the people with old-school mindsets that excellent lawyering doesn’t have to happen in the office.

Have worked past 3 years at a buy side HY credit shop. Great role out of school with solid WL balance but proven difficult to transition into some strategic finance roles without banking experience. Have come across a small bank in NYC, spoken to the entire team (all incredibly nice), and seems to provide great access to founders (deals <$100mm) but the banking hours worry me. What parts am I overlooking? Can you truly find a way to move to the city with a banking job and still enjoy your life?
