I think just keep the whole thing quiet, but when you give your notice be prepared for them to ask you to leave right there, or soon. Ive seen that happen before, so they can say they didnt let you take any secret over there. Also you should be careful when youre interviewing at the new place not to be all casual with talking about your current clients info or Big Secrets—it just reflects on you and how youd talk about your employer. Good luck, hope you like the new place better 😃
There’s no protocol in this industry. Do what makes you happy.
Don’t tell them what you’re working on yet
I’ll add a moral note to the general advice. Sure, don’t worry about it because no one else does, but also because it’s not wrong. Nothing you know is so confidential that it would unfairly help a competitor. The only thing you have of value that you will actually use is industry experience—and it’s totally fair and appropriate for you to extract value for that valuable thing. So go ahead and do it with a clear conscience. And stop bothering HR, their only job is to protect the agency, not you. If you force them to deal w this issue, they will, and you could wind up without either job.
Sign or no sign... do what is right. Don't talk about your current projects. Maybe you can talk about the older projects that was executed and known by them anyway... And echoing the others: be ready to walk when you tender your resignation. Don't get caught off-guard! And don't worry, they will pay that 2 weeks (in my experience)
To reiterate BBDO, you may be asked to immediately leave your current job, so have everything backed up and outside the building before you give notice.
You are over thinking it. Put yourself first, nobody else is going to, just try your best to not be an ass when you do.
I agree with the other comments. It may feel icky but it’s frequently done and can be done with a good conscience. Clients do it. Agency staff does it. Don’t divulge any sensitive/confidential/non-public info you know about client 1 to the new agency/client2. That would be my own personal integrity standard, regardless of what is or isn’t in my non-compete clause. I’d sleep fine at night.
Do what ever gets you that money son. There are no morals in this industry.
If you didn't sign a non-compete, don't even sweat it.
