Always ask for more. Always be ready to be turned down. Always be ready to walk away. Respect yourself. Respect your time.
Lots of good research out there to help you get to a price. LinkedIn salaries, Glassdoor, h1b database, levels, etc.
There are new laws passing making it a requirement to post true salary ranges for a role (just passed in NY taking effecting in April). And in states like CA they’re legally required to tell you what the range is.
Congrats! Yes, def negotiate and have documented evidence
That does sound low. I always ask for more anyway. Worst they can say is no.
The question here is how much more could you get.
Are you getting lowballed and there’s an additional 15-20% there? Maybe. Chances are if they specifically said you were at the top of the salary band, then that’s true. But be more specific and ask what is the salary band and get the range.
Now when you ask for more, in a large organization it’s not that easy to get more. Usually salary bands are there to help eliminate issues with job discrimination and pay between role leveling and have been approved all the way to the highest level. Asking for a salary beyond uses requires manager approval and finance approval, etc. A lot of extra work for them. So be aware there are limits.
Usually what I’ve seen is asking for 10-20% more depending on delta between industry comps, and using the difference to negotiate signing bonus, equity, vacation days, or other perks.
Since this is for Accenture, I’d recommend you just posting in Consulting bowl and ask Accenture folks what you should be getting. Also post in Blind.
