About 3 years ago my SO moved across 3 states to move in with me and work as a store manager for a friend of mine. She had worked for this person the 2 summers prior. Her Full Time position was to be a store manager for the owner. In that time, was the pandemic, a location move for the store, and a few personal issues for the Store owner (my friend). The relationship between the store owner and my SO became strained and my SO was fired from her position.

So, I got the job - a formal written offer was made today @ $10k under the company’s “target” base pay. I have been told that the offer that has been made is the best and highest available based on my experience (ideally company would have wanted a few more years).

It really sounds like there’s no room for negotiation but I want to try - do I say that I need $5k-$10k more otherwise I will be unable to accept or do I just accept the very generous offer on the table?
