I’m in the final quarter of my graduate program and I’m really interested in forensic accounting but disappointed I didn’t have space in my schedule to take the class. Any tips on how I can get experience?

See if they’ll let you audit the class? (No pun intended.)

The classes tend to be more interesting than the work. I would say if you get the opportunity to do a rotation to try that. You really can’t replicate the “real” forensic accounting work that you come across at a public firm/boutique shop in a classroom.

I was just saying the classes themselves tend to be more of the fun things. Mock investigations that in my circumstance get more like something an fbi forensic accountant/agent would do than your avg public accountant or consultant in forensics. For example, larger firms you might spend a lot of time doing document review looking at various things. At any firm you may get one really interesting investigation here and there but spend a lot of time doing compliance work, controls testing, fraud risk assessments, etc. so a good interview question(s) can hover around what type of work the forensic partners tend to bring in as that will drive a lot of what you do. Being an “expert” is important in forensics for a variety of reasons and naturally as an expert, you work on the stuff you are an expert in because why else lol.

By taking that class 😂

Both that class and the actual work are pretty boring. Honestly think you aren't missing out on much. Just pursue a rotation or jump firms if you're still interested in it down the line.

What does everyone want to do after consulting? Role/company to make it interesting, not "industry".
