Bought a top of the line tv years ago for over $2k. Broke days after the 2 year warranty. Replaced with one from Costco that was cheeeeeep. Still have it almost 10 years later. I’ll never buy high end again!

I have bought all my TVs from Costco and they work great. Won’t go anywhere else at this point.
Just make sure you get an OLED

Also OLED is likely out of their price range at that size
Get a good brand like Sony, Samsung, LG or even Vizio and get the less expensive version with good reviews. Anything you get is probably better than what you have and each year they will come out with something better so no need to get the “best”. I notice the different between the TVs but only because I see them side by side at Costco, when I’m at home I don’t notice anything except my new TV.

70 inch at Sam’s Club for $599, don’t waste your money, that should do it for ya.

I’m in the same boat as you.
Highly recommend the TCL Line of TV’s. I got a 65 inch for $400 at Best Buy last year.
In short, not really. TVs, like other technology items, are better today than ever, and cheaper too. If you were ok watching hbo or whatever on your 8 year old midrange 1080p, you will be fine with pretty much any new 4k tv. Do your research at this site. I bought a TCL 5 series, but two other solid options are the TCL 6 series and Samsung 8000 series. https://www.rtings.com/tv

This isn’t quite true of the budget TVs, my friend had a $~400 Walmart special and honestly I feel like old TV on a tube would look better. Just weird pixelated visible waves for anything dark, etc. Awful.
But generally yeah, no reason to chase a slightly darker black for $1000 more if you won’t really notice from prior.

TV deal hunting is one of the main things Slickdeals is best for. Hope you are a Costco member, they seem to produce half of the best deals.
Just get something other people who watch these things get excited about, in your size and price range. You’ll be happy.

Example from today: 65’ with great picture quality, but terrible OS, for $1080 down from $1500.
Great if you are using an Apple TV or other device to use apps, maybe wait for the next deal if you want to use smart TV OS a lot as this one is slow.
Based on what you said, no. Do what STA1 said. Reputable brand, you probably won’t notice any dif.
I always buy TVs from Walmart, my go to brand is Sceptre. I had a 55" one in college a decade ago. I upgraded to 60" after 5 years and put the smaller one in my bedroom. Then I gifted the 60" to my dad and bought myself a 65" in 2017. All three still work great. So much cheaper than Samsung and whatnot, and to my eyes the picture is the exact same.
Sony x90h, just bought it and love it

I bought a 65 inch from Costco for about $500 and it is a great TV.
I picked up the LG BX OLED in that price range and love it
I recently got a LG 65 inch TV, it was mid-range I’d say. Honestly, I think the picture is great. Side by side at Costco with ones that were 2x as much, yes, you could tell the difference. But when I got it home it was improvement over the 50 inch Samsung I had, which was only a few years old.

Old Samsung smart tv from 2012 still works like a charm 🤜🏻🚪
