Financial Advisors

I’m in the Merrill Lynch FA program and not hitting my sales goals. It’s hard to build my network plus I look really young. My boss recently asked me to start sending her my weekly calls/meetings....

It’s the beginning of the formal documentation process. If you want to stay, you should do your best to improve but I suggest polishing the resume and contacting recruiters to cover all your bases

Remember to quit before you get fired. Bad U-4 can eliminate your ability to work in the field.

Production failure is not a bad mark on your record, it’s documented justification for termination, and required at separation. You can still find a job, you may not be at the right place for you

Sounds like she wants to see if the problem is that you’re not putting in the work, or if the problem is that you need help improving your language / sales skills

Is this a sign that I’m about to get fired?

I don’t know that it’s necessarily a sign that you’re getting fired, but it is a sign that you’re not performing to your boss’s expectations and she’s trying to do something about it. If things don’t change I would say your job is in jeopardy. Is she someone that you can look to as a mentor to help coach you into better performance?

What CE1 said is correct. That said, if you want it, you’ve got to do everything in your power to succeed. Maybe it’s at ML, maybe it’s elsewhere. It’s a grind, but ultimately can lead to a very comfortable lifestyle if you’re willing to work at it.

Like everyone else said, it’s a sign. As far as it hurting your U-4, I disagree slightly. I was in the same spot as you. New FA with Morgan Stanley, not performing. Tried super hard my got no support. They let me go. I interviewed with several companies and only was rejected by 1 because of what happened at MS. I think a lot of companies understand when you are a new advisor. Now, if you’ve been in the game awhile, it might be a different story. This happened 10 years ago. I grinder it out and am thankful I didn’t give up on myself

I disagree President 1. Every hiring decision is evaluated beginning with, was it an employer expectation or industry violation. Industry violations will most likely end the career, but employer expectations are looked at differently.

If anyone wants to join a boutique HR & Talent Advisory consulting firm, Kincentric is hiring for an Associate Partner role! Location doesn’t really matter, but preferably in IL, NY, or ATL.
