I’m in the process of transferring cases & one particularly difficult client raised questions about my successor’s credentials and ability. Obviously I’ll assure them they’re in good hands but curious on folks’ thoughts on shielding the communication from my colleague? She’s a younger associate and part of me doesn’t want the comments to impact how she feels about herself but the other part of me wonders if it’s best to ensure she’s fully informed about what she’ll have to deal with taking over

I’d say something like - the client is concerned that the case is changing hands at this critical time. Please take care to answer each of his questions thoughtfully going forward, etc. There’s a tactful way of letting her know to take extra care with this client while shielding her from his doubts about her credentials.

Is it possible to have a sit down or zoom meeting with both of them and introduce them? That’s what I did with my problem clients I originated who were unhappy I was leaving and didn’t want the other lawyers at my prior firm to take over. Make sure junior is well prepared for the meeting and give her a rundown of this client, their matter, personality, etc. Try not to end up in an situation where you run the entire meeting and do all the talking. Let the junior run point to some degree so they can see she’s competent and client can see you’re not just abandoning them. Bonus is you’re teaching junior an important skill in dealing with difficult clients

I just left a very toxic work place.
The crazy thing is they were just named the best local municipality to work for. It's upsetting. They advertise a "culture" but don'tapply it. It felt like a used car sales pitch, I was sold a dream but given junk. I am constantly replaying moments. I have read so many books and everything leads to they were the problem. How do I recover from this?

How do you know your true worth? And once you know, how do you make sure you get it?

I am on a team that manages relationships with the banks that hold brokerage accounts for a large Asset Management firm. I have gained an enormous amount of experience (relationship mgmt, project mgmt, analysis), and compensation is decent - $85k base with $25k bonus - but I have no idea what my top earning potential would be if I switched companies or pursued another role. What is the best way to find out?

Or not even?

Or should I wait for the conditions to get better? Today, house prices are relatively high and properties are selling ~20k over listing price. I am not sure if waiting will help though.

Property in Maryland Gaithersburg, DC commute.
Return would ~11% on 80k accounting for taxes, insurances, 5% vacancy and 10% emergency fund.

As a FTM, I feel like I need the next couple of years to be a little less stressful. Is there a way to move but without burning bridges? Looking for advice re maternity leave. About a year ago I moved to a new state but have continued working for the same small firm remotely. Everything is basically the same, except I am not doing any in-person hearings, depos, meetings, etc. Also, we changed my pay structure so I am now paid a percentage of everything I bill, which has turned out to be a good bit more than what I was making before on a set salary. That, coupled with the flexibility to generally work whenever I want (cont below)
