I'm in the UK and the seasonal depression is really starting to hit. I've had serious depression in the past and felt 'well' for the first time in a long time this year. I took a day off work as 'flu' last week to recharge but it didn't work. I came off an (unrelated) PIP about a month ago and now I'm getting nothing done. I can't focus, I just want to lay in bed. Gym routine has gone out the window, I don't have my old network of people for times like this. I dont know what to do

Think back on what you did to get yourself to be at a good point earlier this year. If you did that once you can do it again. I suffer from seasonal affective disorder as well so I completely understand. I would contact your doctor and a therapist to try to get help to get back on track. If you don’t have a therapist, then now would be a good time to get one.

One thing that helped me was getting into skiing as it is something that I can look forward to going into winter. Definitely is better than what I used to do, which was to hunker down at home and wait for winter to pass. Maybe there’s some sort of wintertime activity that you might enjoy. Even small things like exploring a Christmas market or going on a walk will help get you out of this rut.

I’ll give you a piece of simple, actionable advice. Good vitamin D. Most vitamin d supplements are terrible but I’ll link one that works very well for myself. There are instances where I’m feeling awfully down and I can’t put my finger on why but then I remember I haven’t taken vitamin d in weeks. Please consider. Hang in there, mate. Loneliness and depression is very common than we think now. I have relocated as well, its been 2 years. Feel terribly lonely. Same is the case with 2 of my other friends who have relocated to different countries. You are not alone. A therapist will help you a great deal in your journey. Try to find hobbies - may be start doing side gigs or learn a new skill, engage in simple activities like learning to cook new dishes, start exercise routine , etc. And make sure you start reconnecting with your long lost friends. Try to chat/facetime with them weekly once at least. Join bumble bff if you are ready to make new friends near you. These are some things i have tried and worked for me in a positive way

Bumble up some mates near you. Loneliness bites but theres a cure. You would be surprised how many people you can find to buddy up with you on Bumble and actually understand the same battle that you’re going through.

I have a manager that does not seem to understand mental illnesses, disorders, etc. He thinks I am making excuses rather than trying to explain things (I have diagnosed ADHD, anxiety, and depression) and I’m trying to take ownership for issues but also help him understand what I am describing better as well. We are sitting down for a conversation later this week. Any advice on how to gently educate or help with his understanding of neurodivergence and other mental health considerations?

I’m in a rather peculiar situation. I have been in the HR field going on 4 years, I have over 11 years of management experience, I got my PHR last year and I recently graduated with my MBA with a concentration in HR this month. I am ready for a more challenging role. However, there doesn’t seem to be much available at my current company. However, I am going on 5 months pregnant with the expectation of being out in October. I feel like once I mentioned my pregnancy I was in a holding pattern.

Where can I learn to move patients in bed and in their rooms without getting hurt?

For those who were diagnosed as an adult can you provide some insight into how you were able to obtain a diagnosis. I went to my primary care dr who referred me to another dr who specialized in mental health. He asked me about 5 questions before telling me I should see a neuropsychologist for an official assessment. The referral he gave me is super pricey and apparently isn’t covered by insurance. Is that normal?

About a year ago I took a job closer to home (7.5miles). My previous position is about 50miles away, but I worked there for 11.5 years. I am really thinking about leaving and going back to my previous position. I absolutely HATE my job now. It gives me panic attacks thinking about it. I’ve had to change my anxiety meds and increase dose. Yes my old job is an hour away, but I was so much happier and less BS I had to deal with there. Do y’all think it’s a good idea to take a job with more commute?

For the people who took Steve Kerr’s impassioned speech (which I admire tremendously) and used it as a LinkedIn post to talk about “what leadership looks like in the workplace” - seriously consider rethinking your priorities in life. Not everything is an opportunity to spout off about what “leadership” is and turn it into professional advice (I realize not everyone did that or may not have seen it as much as I did in my feed, but had to vent about it).
