Im intending to resign and I've shared it with my boss. I will officialise this next week. However, I think my director (his boss) would be giving me a hard time for the whole month of notice... how should I go about this? Thanks a million in advance.

Very likely you live in a right to work state. This means you can be fired for any reason (mostly) but also you can resign and not give any notice. Companies can no longer retaliate agist people for quiting the job and giving any notice they want. That being said the tradition is 2 weeks.

A-Talk to your direct supervisor about your concerns if he/she is already aware of your leaving. If an HR or accounting person leaves at my company, the date they turn in their notice is their last day, and we just pay them for the notice period (2 weeks usually). This is to avoid potential security issues down the road, not sure if that's an option for you to give notice but say today's my last day. You wouldn't be violating the notice period that way.

If you have a Compliance department this could be seen as retaliation. Talk to them and see what they say. Also, if that boss starts making things difficult, just keep it about the job and what’s needed for the transition, make a note, and share in your exit interview. That behavior is unprofessional and someone should really be coaching that boss against exhibiting it. If they’re frustrated about the transition they shouldn’t be taking it out on you.

I'll probably just work on what I can. The director cannot demand extraordinary diligence just because I'm about to leave. If anything, it would be prudent to start unloading responsibilities on a leaving employee.

Use the time to transition all your work, and then maybe you can leave early. It’s rare that people want you around after you resign.
