I’m interested in speaking with a legal recruiter. It appears there are a lot of opportunities out there right now. My resume is robust, but not traditional, as I left a law firm 14 years ago (on good terms) to run a small business. It has been successful, but times (and labor markets) are changing and it is time to consider a pivot in my career path. I am licensed and in good standing in two jurisdictions. Any of you interested in speaking with me?

Alternative question: What is the best way to connect with a recruiter who wishes they could find a candidate like me?

Truthfully a recruiter is generally going from job to candidates not candidates to job unless the candidate is extremely placable (traditional career, top academics, firm pedigree, book of business… that’s needing to move for location, unreasonable boss, flexible work situation, restructuring, etc).

That’s not to say that you wouldn’t find a firm or company interested in your background, they’re just unlikely to pay a hefty recruiters fee on top of your salary.

Thank you for that feedback. Every bit of insight helps. More and more it seems networking and relationships are the best avenue for my situation. I did speak with a recruiter a couple weeks ago. The advice he gave me was to highlight my experience with contracts, including master service agreements, risk mitigation, compliance and seek opportunities on a contract basis that will help freshen the skills in-house positions require. So, I’ve started down that path. Seems that most companies are either looking for full time counsel already with this fresh experience or are using a firm to fill the gap. Do you have any further advice on where I might break in and find some contract work, on a contract basis to freshen my skills in this area of law?
