I’m interviewing 2Ls for a summer associate position at my firm, and today I received a cover letter that was FOUR pages long and went on and on about the kid’s medical history from high school and beyond, dropping in the fact that he lost his mother at a young age, and saying that this was why his grades were low. Mind you, his transcript wasn’t required to be sent so I wouldn’t have known he had bad grades. He didn’t even say anything about the position! It read like a college entrance essay 😵‍💫

Well sounds like an opportune time to give constructive criticism, that will save the applicants hide in the future.

@attorney 2 that’s not how it works at my school. The career center is available and happy to help but only if you go to them, they don’t come to you and there’s no requirement to use them

Sounds like maybe he or she didn't have a successful parent or school resources to guide them on an acceptable cover letter. Maybe take them to coffee and treat it as a teaching moment.

Just received my offer from Uber. Is it normal for recruiters to play hard ball when it comes to comp? I feel like what I was offered for the role was low, and he made it seem like it was non negotiable. (They don’t decide this, do they?) I’m afraid if I counter they will go for someone else but I’m just not happy with it overall.

Initial offer: Account Exec, base 45k. No sign on bonus.

Hello everyone,

I have 6 years of exp in IT
Recently I got offer from Amdocs, From
Naukri.com, I was applying as a mssql developer,
In interview also they asked regarding sql concepts.

But I am not clear about the job profile,
As they just scheduled the interview directly and it happened.

Will after joining they will move me to any in house tech, or the job will be relevant with my profile only.

I mean i am switching only to work on good tech. Dont want to get stuck again in in-house technology.

I'm not looking to go 20 years backwards-I no longer want to be the nanny and work that hard however nothing interests me! I really don't want to go back to school and thousands of dollars in loans etc. etc.

My firm has a 9-year partnership track as of a year or two ago. It has grown quickly from 5 to 7 to 9 in the past 10 or so years. In the written document that sets out the criteria for partnership, it basically says that your billable hours need to go up every year. Our minimum is 1900. I’m wondering how normal this increasing billables requirement is? I am torn between thinking it’s sensible and thinking it’s another example of law firms treating associates like machines.
